RCC Column Work Specification – Dubai

(UAE)
1. Scope of Work
 This specification outlines the requirements for supply, mixing, placing, compacting,
curing, and finishing of reinforced cement concrete (RCC) in vertical structural elements
such as columns for construction projects in Dubai.

2. Applicable Standards and Codes

 • Dubai Municipality Building Code
 • BS 5328 (Concrete: Part 1 to 4)
 • ASTM C33 (Aggregates for Concrete)
 • ASTM C150 (Portland Cement)
 • ACI 318 / BS 8110 for reinforcement and structural detailing
 • Project-specific structural drawings and specifications

3. Materials
 • Cement: OPC conforming to ASTM C150 Type I or as approved
 • Fine Aggregate: Clean, sharp river sand
 • Coarse Aggregate: Crushed stone, 20 mm downsize, hard and clean
 • Water: Potable, free from salts or impurities
 • Reinforcement: High yield deformed bars (as per BS 4449 or ASTM A615)
 • Admixtures: If approved, must comply with ASTM C494

4. Surface Preparation
 • Ensure formwork is clean, aligned, and treated with release agent
 • Verify reinforcement placement, cover, and fixing as per approved drawings
 • Fix spacer blocks and chairs to maintain specified cover
 • Remove debris and standing water before placing concrete

5. Mixing and Placing

 • Concrete to be mixed at batching plant or site as per approved mix design
 • Slump to be checked before placement to meet workability requirements
 • Place concrete using chute, pump, or crane bucket
 • Place in layers not exceeding 450 mm thickness
 • Avoid delays and cold joints during placing
6. Compaction and Finishing
 • Use immersion vibrator to compact each layer properly
 • Avoid displacement of reinforcement and segregation
 • Top surface to be leveled if left exposed, otherwise roughened for next pour
 • Do not disturb formwork until concrete is set

7. Curing
 • Begin curing immediately after formwork removal
 • Wet curing using hessian cloth or continuous water spray for a minimum of 7 days
 • Apply curing compound only if approved by Consultant

8. Quality Assurance
 • All materials to be approved prior to use
 • Slump and compressive strength tests to be conducted as per QA/QC plan
 • Ensure proper consolidation and surface quality
 • No honeycombing, segregation, or cold joints allowed

9. Protection and Handover

 • Protect green concrete from vibration, impact, and weather
 • Do not remove formwork before achieving initial setting and minimum strength
 • Get Consultant’s approval before loading or further construction
