Information on various grading systems is available on www.anabin.kmk.org, the website of the “Zentralstelle für
ausländisches Bildungswesen - ZAB” (Central Office for Foreign Education). The standard grading systems for secondary
schools and universities in many countries can be found via the link “Bildungswesen” in the menu on the left-hand side of
the page. Please note that the website does not provide information about every grading system used in every country.
Some secondary schools or universities use their own individual grading systems.

For the conversion of your grade into the German grading system you must know the highest possible mark, (Nmax), and
the lowest pass mark, (Nmin), applicable in the country or institution in which you completed your qualification. The
relevant mark for the (Nmin) is the lowest passing mark required for the degree to be awarded and not the lowest passing
mark in any individual course or subject. In addition you will require the average mark which you obtained (Nd). In most
cases a formula known as the “Modifizierte Bayerische Formel” will be used to convert your grade into the German
system. Conversion of marks according to the “Modifizierte Bayerische Formel”

Nmax - Nd
-------------------- * 3 + 1
Nmax - Nmin

The “Modifizierte Bayerische Formel” is not used in cases where the ZAB recommends a different conversion system.
