At the end of the lesson, students will be able to:

a. recognize the meaning of ratio;
b. express one value as a fraction of another given their ratio and vice versa; and
c. create an illustration of ratio and fraction.

II. CONTENT: Expressing One Value as a Fraction of another Given their Ratio and Vice
Versa

III. LEARNING RESOURCES

A. Reference: MELCs Math (M6NS-IIa-129)
B. Materials: laptop, tv, pictures

IV. PROCEDURE
A. Reviewing past lesson or presenting the new lesson
1. What is our previous topic all about?
2. In division, what is the number that is being divided?
3. What do we call the number that divides the dividend?
4. What do we call the answer in division?

B. Establishing a purpose of the new lesson (Motivation)

Let’s Play!

The teacher will call 10 volunteers. It can be 5 girls and 5 boys. The students
will group according to the category that the teacher will say.

Example: Who among of the students are playing basketball and volleyball?

Want vegetables – want fruits
What have you noticed in the groupings?

Can you ratio the number of those who chose anime and video games and those
who chose Math and English?

How do you ration the categories?

C. Presenting examples/ instances of the new lesson

The teacher will present and discuss the meaning of ratio as part of the lesson.

Ratio is a way of comparing two or more quantities having the same units.
The quantities may be separate entities or they may be different parts of a whole.
You can write the ratio of a and b in three ways: It can be in word form, colon
form and fraction form. The order in which the ratio is expressed is very
important. The order of the terms in a ration must correspond to the order of
objects being compared. In the ratio, a part can be compared to its whole.

D. Discussing new concepts and practicing new skills

The teacher will provide figures and let the students find the ratio in three ways.

E. Discussing new concepts and practicing new skills #2

Example 2: Compare the total number of shapes to the number of triangles.

F. Developing Mastery (Leads to Formative Assessment)

The teacher will show different figures and let the students express their ratio in
three ways.

G. Finding Practical Application of concepts and skills in daily living.

Make your own illustration of ratio and fraction. See example:

H. Making Generalization and abstraction about the lesson

Fractions and ratios can be used to compare two quantities. When a ratio is
given, one value can be expressed as a fraction of another. When a fraction is
given, the quantities can be expressed as a ratio.
