Health Risks Across the Life Span: Major Health Issues and Chronic Disease Management
Chronic diseases are a leading cause of mortality and morbidity worldwide, with 74% of global
deaths in 2019 attributed to non-communicable diseases (NCDs) such as cancer, cardiovascular
diseases, and metabolic disorders. The rise in chronic illness is exacerbated by factors such as
aging, socioeconomic disparities, and limited healthcare access, making prevention and
management critical public health concerns. Mental health disorders, including addiction, also
contribute significantly to disease burden, affecting 20% of the global population.
The increasing prevalence of chronic diseases underscores the need for improved prevention
strategies. Research suggests integrating genomics, behavior change interventions, and digital
health solutions to enhance early detection and long-term management. Polygenic and
multifactorial risk prediction tools can help identify individuals at risk before symptoms appear,
facilitating early intervention. Additionally, behavior change strategies, such as lifestyle
modifications and patient education, can improve disease outcomes. Digital health platforms
further enhance healthcare efficiency, expanding the reach of preventive and treatment programs.
Given the urgency of addressing chronic disease burden, this research aims to explore effective
disease management strategies in adulthood. The following research questions will guide the
study:
1. How do polygenic and multifactorial risk prediction tools contribute to the early detection
and management of chronic diseases in adults?
2. What are the most effective behavior change strategies for managing chronic conditions,
and how do they impact long-term health outcomes?
3. How can digital health interventions improve access to chronic disease management and
enhance patient adherence to treatment plans?
Addressing these questions can lead to improved healthcare strategies, ultimately reducing
chronic disease prevalence and improving quality of life.
