Helen Marten - Treatise of a Coat - Selected Works on Paper 2019-2025
Walther und Franz Koenig 2025 ISBN 9783753309132 Acqn 37274
Pb 22x28cm 392pp col ills £45

Treatise of a Coat gathers for the first time works on paper by international artist Helen Marten.
Featuring coloured pencil, watercolour, ink, airbrush, acrylic and graphite, alongside other more
unusual media like sand, silicone or olive oil, this book is a sumptuous, visual document of
Marten's paper-based drawing and painting practice. Designed as an unruly "artist's book",

Treatise of a Coat has multiple physical and linguistic folds. The title is a forcing of the
homonymic similarities of coat: the literal jacket that is unfurled to expose the naked and unruly
shame of human forms; the fur or hair of an animal; the verb-function of to coat, with its
intentional building up of visual desire - the acts of lacquering, spreading, enclosing, flooding,
directing, or husking that line and colour expedite when creating an image. The constituent
materiality of this book is designed with the physicality of making a work on paper in mind.

Jonathan Meese - Books of the Books, Annotated Catalogue Raisonne 1993 – 2025
Walther und Franz Koenig 2025 ISBN 9783753309392 Acqn 37325
Hb 21x31cm 240pp col ills £45

Annotated and lavishly illustrated catalogue raisonne of Jonathan Meese's artist books.

The medium of the book plays a central role in Jonathan Meese's oeuvre. His first artist books
were created at the HFBK University of Fine Arts Hamburg. Here, Meese also began writing and
publicly reading texts. These readings then developed into his first performances. Meese's serial
work process resulted in a wealth of material, presented by him in the form of installations,
portfolios, books, and notebooks. Following his graduation, the artist books' formats and often
also their materials changed. In large collage books and folios friends and protagonists from the
artworld were combined with historical figures, philosophers or pulp fiction heroes. The artist
books' stylistic elements were also used for the creation of special editions and exhibition
catalogs.

The lavishly illustrated, annotated catalogue raisonne covers more than 400 artist publications in
chronological order: books, unique copies, notebooks, exercise books, material and collage
books, atlases, facsimiles and catalogs in which Jonathan Meese was significantly involved.

Malgorzata Mirga-Tas
Walther und Franz Koenig 2025 ISBN 9783753308296 Acqn 37328
Hb 23x30cm 200pp col ills £42

New textile collages and sculptures by a Roma artist whose themes are the everyday worlds and
myths of Roma culture Mirga-Tas attracted a lot of attention with her contribution to the
"RomaMoMA" space at the Fridericianum at documenta 15 in 2022. A Roma herself, she
depicted the transition of the Romani people in the 1960s and 70s from a nomadic to a settled
life. In her new, colourful pictures on cardboard and canvas, she again uses different materials
including textiles, furs, pearls, and feathers to show everyday worlds and myths of Roma culture,
inspired, among others, by the vividly coloured pictures of African artist Kerry James Marshall.
