4. You have TWO WEEKS to complete this Coursework. No coursework answer
sheet shall be accepted after the deadline day (the system has closed).
5. This is an OPEN BOOK (Online) coursework.
6. Attempt all Questions in total. All questions carry a total of forty marks (40 marks
each).

QUESTION ONE [25 MARKS] – HARDWARE SECTION
For this practical assignment, students must demonstrate their understanding of computer
system hardware by selecting a computer system (laptop or desktop), clearly specify its
model and serial number, and document the disassembly and assembly process.
Record a video of yourself performing both the disassembly and assembly, ensuring each step
is clearly explained. Upload the video to YouTube (using your personal YouTube Account
created using your personal Email Account) and include the link on Answer sheet
The computer can be borrowed or obtained from a workshop of your choice. In the Answer
sheet, include the high-quality photos corresponding to each step to illustrate key points and
showcase your hands-on experience.
INSTRUCTIONS
1. Select a laptop or desktop computer for this assignment, ensuring it can be safely
disassembled and reassembled.
2. Identify and list the specifications of all internal and external components of the
chosen computer system.
3. Carefully disassemble the computer, documenting each step-in detail. Provide clear
explanations for the removal of key component. Include high-quality, well-lit photos
at each stage to visually illustrate the process.
4. After disassembly, reassemble the computer, thoroughly documenting each step.
Explain the proper placement and connection of components, supported by clear
photos to complement your written descriptions.
5. If you encounter any challenges, such as beep codes or error messages, during
disassembly or assembly, describe how you resolved them. Detail your thought
process, problem-solving approach, and the final solution.
6. Highlight the safety precautions you implemented throughout the process. Discuss
potential risks associated with disassembling and assembling a computer and explain
how you mitigated them.
7. Reflect on your hands-on experience, discuss the insights you gained and how this
activity enhances your understanding of computer repair and maintenance.
QUESTION TWO [15 MARKS] – OPERATING SYSTEMS / SOFTWARE
For this assignment part two, you are required to demonstrate the knowledge gained in the
Operating System/ Software as a component of the Computer System. Your task is to
download Oracle VM VirtualBox from their official website, Install the Virtual Box on your
computer, and subsequently install preferred Operating System as a virtual machine.
Document each step of the process and provide screenshots to illustrate your actions.
Additionally, discuss your experience, challenges faced, and insights gained during the
installation and setup.
Instructions
1. Download VirtualBox: Go to the official Oracle VM VirtualBox website
(https://www.virtualbox.org/) and download the latest version of VirtualBox suitable
for your operating system.
2. Execute the installation process for VirtualBox on your computer. Take screenshots at
each step, including any customization options or settings you choose during the
installation.
3. Once VirtualBox is installed, create a new virtual machine for Windows 8. Document
the configuration settings, such as memory allocation, virtual hard disk size, and any
additional settings you choose.
4. Select the Operating System to be used in the installation, State its version or
distribution, Edition
5. Start the virtual machine and install the selected Operating System on it. Capture
screenshots throughout the Windows installation process, highlighting key steps like
language selection, disk partitioning, and user account setup.
6. Discuss and demonstrate any integration features between the host and virtual
machine, such as shared folders, clipboard sharing, and seamless mode.
7. If you encounter any issues during the installation or setup, document the problems
and describe the steps you took to troubleshoot and resolve them.
8. Discuss what you have learned from installing VirtualBox and setting up selected
Operating System as a virtual machine. Highlight any challenges faced and share your
thoughts on the practicality of virtualization for running different operating systems.

VirtualBox. If you encounter difficulties, consult relevant documentation and Include them at
the end of the Coursework Documentation.
