INTRODUCTION
Many countries and electricity markets are looking at
Smart Grid as advanced solutions in delivering mix of
enhanced values ranging from higher reliability, power
quality, lower cost of delivery, and energy efficiency.
It is to ensure sustainable development in the electricity
sector and many benefits of the all stakeholders.
EXISTING GRID
Limited Delivery System.
High cost of power outage and power
quality interruption .
Inefficiency at managing peak load.
Communications too slow.
SMART GRID
An intelligent electricity-delivery system
Smart Meters
Direct load control
Intersection of Energy & Telecommunication
HOW SMART GRID WORKS?
Communication between the energy
company and the end consumer
Allows energy companies to track areas of
high use, identify possible outages, and
provide the proper service
Globally, a number of initiatives
have already started, most of it
through strong support from the
Government
Global Market Trends
Country
China
National Smart Grid Initiatives
Chinas State Grid Corporation outlined plans in 2010 for a pilot smart grid programme
that maps out deployment to 2030. Smart grids investments will reach at least USD 96
billion by 2020.
United States
USD 4.5 billion was allocated to grid modernisation under the American Recovery
Reinvestment Act of 2009
Japan
The Federation of Electric Power Companies of Japan is developing a smart grid that
incorporates solar power generation by 2020 with government investment of over USD 100
million.
France
The electricity distribution operator EDF is deploying 300000 smart meters in a pilot
project based on an advanced communication protocol named Linky. If the pilot is
deemed a success, ERDF will replace all of its 35 million meters with Linky smart meters from
2012 to 2016.

SCOPE
The Purpose of project is to provide reliable
and efficient delivery of command and
control information for smart meters on
power line through power line modem.
Specifically we have implemented Open
Smart Grid Protocol on Micro-Controllers.
