Fast Depletion of Natural
Resources
An Analysis
Problem Statement
Ideally, the supply of natural resources should be able to satisfy the demand
of people and other industries, however, the problem is that the demand
highly exceeds the current supply.
Root Causes
1. Irresponsible methods
2. Lack of management
3. Keeping up with the demand

Man
● Lack of discipline
○ People tend to overuse our current resources because they are unaware of the
consequences
● Lack of concern
○ Aside from the lack of discipline, some people don’t make efforts to help replenish
our resources
● Greed
○ Sometimes it’s not the lack of discipline or lack of concern but rather greed
(especially for natural resources that have high demand)
Methods
● Non-renewable energy as source
○ Use of resources that cannot be easily
replaced by natural means of level equal to its
consumption.
● Deforestation
○ Removal of trees in a land which is then
converted to a non-forest use.
Methods
● Irresponsible mining
○ Open-pit mining entails clearing thousands of
hectares of rainforests and agricultural lands,
deep excavations in order to extract minerals.
● Industrial development
○ Production of goods within an economy
requires a lot of our natural resources.
Materials
● Usage of disposable products
○ Constant use and disposal of products like
water bottles or toothbrushes continue to
deplete natural resources like oil for
plastics.
● Pollution
○ Can render certain natural resources
useless (i.e. Pasig River for aquatic life)
Machine
● Complex equipment
○ The development of technology paved the way for
intricate machinery used to get resources such as
metals, gas, coal, and petroleum
● Factories
○ Resources become depleted and added pollution
due to the increased demand of industrialization
Management
● Regulations & Policies
○ laws and bills designed to protect natural resources are scarce or outdated
● Government
○ monitoring is ineffective
● Research on Sustainability
○ basis of regulations and policies
● Lack of Awareness Projects
○ Information should be made easily accessible to the common people
Mother Nature
● Irregular Weather Patterns
○ Due to irregular weather patterns,
resources such as crops are yielding less
harvests.
○ Coral bleaching causes less available
fishes thus forcing a more agressive
fishing which includes catching
unmatured fishes.
Proposed Solutions
● Responsible mining
● Use of renewable energy
● Better implementation of rules and regulation
● Reduce, reuse and recycle
● Educate the people
