reading skills. Teachers ought to develop at least
one of these skills; otherwise, the entire reading
process will be frivolous.
These reading
skills include:
Scanning for specific
information
Making predictions
while reading
Revising predictions
while reading
Identifying main ideas and
supporting details
Sensing cause - effect
relationship
Locating markers
that signal sequence,
comparison, contrast
etc.
Paraphrasing, i.e stopping at
the end of a section to check
comprehension by restating
the information and ideas in
the text
