Chapter 3 School Days in Biñan

Rizal spent time in Biñan for schooling, where he lodged with his aunt and cousin. He had several tutors before beginning formal schooling under Maestro Justiano Aquino Cruz in Biñan. Rizal excelled in his studies and also took painting lessons. However, his mother was falsely accused and jailed during this time. In December 1870, Rizal left Biñan to return to Calamba, accompanied by a friend of his father. He was inspired by the execution of Gomburza priests in 1872.
