HONG KONG POLICE SYSTEM
• A special Administrative Region of China headed by a Chief
Executive.
• One of the oldest, yet most modern, police forces in the world.
• The main duties of law enforcement in the Hong Kong Special
Administrative Region of the People’s Republic of China are taken by
the Hong Kong Police Force.
• July 1, 1997; Great Britain returned sovereignty of Hong Kong.

LAND REGIONS
Each of the five land regions has a headquarters comprising:
• Operations Formation
• Administration Formation
• Crime Formation
• Traffic Formation
MARINE REGION
• Enforcing the laws of HK in regional waters;
• Preventing smuggling and illegal immigration by sea;
• Search and rescue in HK and adjacent waters.
ORGANIZATIONAL STRUCTURE
A. OPERATIONS AND SUPPORT
1. Operation wing
Coordinates counter terrorism, internal security, anti-illegal immigration
measures, bomb disposal commitments and contingency planning for natural
disasters.

2. Support Wing
Oversees the execution and staffing of operational support matters, including the formulation of
operational policies for both the regular and Hong Kong Auxiliary Police Force and for updating kits and
equipment.

B. Police Public Relation Branch
It is responsible for maintaining a high level of public confidence by robustly projecting a positive
image of the Force through community and media relations. It is divided into two branches:
a. Community Relations Bureau
b. Information and Publicity Bureau
C. Traffic Branch Headquarters
It is responsible for the formulation and dissemination of traffic enforcement policies, the collation
of related resource requirements, the processing of traffic summons and fixed penalty tickets, the
monitoring of changes in traffic legislation, the development and evaluation of traffic management
schemes, and the co-ordination of the Force’s road safety efforts.
