Hadith of the
virtue of giving
Rasulullah Muhammad SAW said in
Hadith :
ُهَّلال ىَّل َص ِهَّلال ُل و َر ُس َلاَق َلاَق َّل
َعْن ِاْبِن ُعَمر َر ِضَي ال ُه ُه
ْنَع
َّل
َع َوَس َم:
ِه ْيَل
ُة َق ْنِف ُمال ِه اَيْلُعال َيُدْل
َا ف ىَل ْف ُّس
َيatas lebih baik daripadaَنtanganال ِدَيال ِّم ٌرْي َخ اَيْلُعال َيُدْل
َا
“ Tangan di di bawah,
ُةَلِئا
maka tanganَّس ال ِه َل
َيdiُّس ْف
ى َوالadalah pemberi dan tangan di
atas
bawah adalah peminta “

In the syari’at of Islam when someone is
not very needy. Because begging in Islamic
syari'at is not allowed, unless it is very
compulsory. There are several hadiths of
the Prophet sallallaahu 'alaihi wa sallam
which prohibit begging, including the words
of the Prophet sallallaahu' alaihi wa sallam:

Prophet sallallaahu' alaihi wa sallam said :
ْل ْأ َأ
َح َّتٰى َي ِتَي َيْوَم ا ِقَياَمِة، َما َيَز اُل الَّر ُج ُل َيْس ُل الَّناَس
َل ُة َع ِه ِف َل
ْح ٍم ْيَس ْي َوْج ِه ُمْز
A person is always begging others so that he
will come on the Day of Judgment with not a
piece of meat on his face (Muttafaq 'alaih)

This hadith is a strong threat which shows
that begging people without need is haram.
Therefore, the scholars say that it is not
lawful for someone to ask for something
from humans except when it is an
emergency.

The words of the Prophet sallallaahu 'Alaihi
wa Sallam:
ْأ
َواْبَد ِبَمْن َتُعوُل
" Put the people for whom you are responsible
first."
Namely from his wife and children. Because
providing for them is an obligation. And
providing for their children, wife and family
takes precedence and priority over other than
them.

َك َغ َأ
َمْن َس َل ِمْن ْيِر َفْقٍر َف َّنَما َي ُل ا َج ْمَر.
Whoever begs (from others) without any need, it
is as if he is eating hot coals. HR. Ahmad

Why is giving more than asking?
Because giving is certainly far more noble
than asking. on the one hand, giving to others,
especially to those in need, means taking part
in maintaining the glory of Muslims so that
they avoid begging which is a low act if it is
done deliberately. because Islam teaches that
begging people without need is haram.
giving by sharing the rizki
that Allah has given means
realizing that in some of the
rizki Allah has given there
are other people's rights
that must be given.
giving or sharing to others
keeps people from being
hunks and greed. because
hunks and greed will make
humans never satisfied with
all the gifts of Allah, even
tend to always feel less.
Islam forbids begging. Man of
Allah is equipped with reason,
so that he can use it to carry
out his role on this earth as
the khalifah of Allah who uses
and manages the contents of
nature to survive in his life.
If man does not want to
manage all the facilities that
Allah has given him, it means
that he has forgotten his role
and has plunged himself into
humiliation due to the
malfunctioning of the mind that
Allah has given.

Why is begging something that is
forbidden in Islam?

Because there is no honor for those who beg.
A person who chooses his way of life by
begging means that he has humbled himself
before humans because he has declared
before other humans that he is weak and
helpless, so that he hopes for help and
compassion from others.

He too humbled himself to Allah. Because it
means he ignores Allah's commands in the
real Koran, which is to spread to all corners
of the earth in order to obtain Allah's
blessing. He does not use his mind to get the
living facilities that Allah has prepared for all
his creatures.

The Prophet sallallaahu alaihi wasallam
said in the hadith:
َأ َك َل َأ َأ
َمْن َس َل الَّناَس ْمَوا ُهْم َت ُّثًر ا َفِإَّنَما َيْس ُل
َأ
َج ْمًر ا َفْلَيْس َتِقَّل ْو ِلَيْس َت ِثر
ْك
"Whoever begs but he is not destitute is as if
he is eating coals of fire". (H.R. Muslim)

In another hadith, the Prophet sallallaahu
'alaihi wasallam also said:
ى ْأ َأ
َما َيَز اُل الَّر ُج ُل َيْس ُل الَّناَس َح َّت َي ِتَى َيْوَم
ْح اْلِقَياَمِة َلْيَس ِفى َوْج ِه ُمْز َعُة َل
ٍم ِه
"A person who always begs others, on the Day
of Judgment he will face Allah in a state that is
not a piece of flesh at all in his face"
(Narrated by Bukhari)

better than hands below”!

gives what is owned, the hand that is
below it loses its value when it receives
the gift. Rasulullah SAW taught the ideal
principle for every Muslim, namely to live
well and like to give alms.

poverty and did not pile
up wealth so that they
became stingy.

was a successful trader. Of
his 10 friends who are
guaranteed to go to

successful entrepreneurs.

Rasulullah SAW invited his people to stay
away from greed and hunks, by giving. giving
does not have to be material, giving can be in
the form of energy or thought as well as
knowledge, as it is to provide a solution to a
problem faced by a friend or relative.

of attention and energy is also an
implementation of giving. Therefore giving
does not have to wait when it is rich and
well off. Islam teaches convenience and
kindness to all of its people.
