BALSALT FIBER REINFORCED
CONCRETE
Guided by- Submitted by-

INTRODUCION
• Basalt is an extrusive igneous rock forms from the cooling and crystallization of magma.
• The application of basalt fiber in construction field is increasing rapidly.
• Basalt originates from volcanic magma and flood volcanoes, a very hot fluid or semi-fluid
material under the earth crust, solidified in the open air.
BALSALT FIBER REINFORCED CONCRETE
SCOPES
Low cost, high performance fibers offer the potential to solve the largest
problem in the cement and concrete industry, cracking and structural failure
of concrete.
Because of the higher performance (strength, temperature range, and
durability) and lower potential cost predicted for basalt fibers.
Have potential to cost effectively replace fiber glass, steel, Fiber, poly
propylene, poly ethylene, polyester, aramid and carbon fiber products in
many applications.
AIMS AND OBJECTIVES
• The aims of this study was to identified to improvement in strength,
characteristic of building materials with the addition of basalt rock fiber.
• In the study, basalt fiber is added to concrete and Plain Cement Concrete is
used as reference to study its effect on flexural, compressive and tensile
strength property and also drying shrinkage.
• Fiber is coated with oil so as to decrease the water absorption. Some of the
advantages being observed are low cost, low density.
Objectives
• To conduct flexibility study of producing concrete using basalt fibres.
• To find out variation in compressive, tensile and flexural strength of BFRC
using basalt fibres and to compare it with that of conventional concrete.
• To determine the influence of shape of fiber on the strength of concrete.
