Question 1 (30%)
• You are required as the Firm’s Management
Accountant to prepare a production budget
that you can present to your team and to your
potential investors.
Question 1 How to improve your grade

1. Demonstrates an excellent degree of understanding of


budgeting.
2. Evidence of some research to provide accurate figures. I am
not expecting you to be an expert but the numbers should be
reasonable.
3. Information is presented clearly and accurately. Make sure
that the you have completed the back pages of the budget
and that the ‘Top sheet’ is auto calculated.
4. Very few errors
5. Notes are communicated clearly, write a brief not for each
cost code populated.
6. You DO NOT have to populate every cost code.

1. Discuss the principles of ABB, illustrate your answer with academic references.
a) Demonstrate an excellent degree of understanding of ABB . You need to allocate quite a few
words to this. If you have used one or two sentences then this will not be enough to score well.
b) References are excellent quality. You need to have read at least 2 relevant academic papers. Use
Nelson or Google scholar.
2. Explain how ABB is relevant to the film industry.
a) Explanation is relevant to the industry with clear evidence of further research and of
understanding of the industry. You need to think about the film industry and explain how ABB is
a good tool to use – or not
b) A wide range of sources of information are used to support arguments. You can reference
Suzanne Pim. You can also reference other accountants who work in the industry (see YouTube
videos)

3. Explain the advantages and disadvantages to FireDance Ltd.


a) You can give examples from your own scenario.

4. Discuss the principles of ZBB, illustrate your answer with academic references.
5. Explain how ZBB is relevant to the film industry.
6. Explain the advantages and disadvantages to FireDance Ltd.

• Focus on the conflicts may occur when using a
budget for both planning and control, illustrate
your answer with academic references.
• Suggest any likely problem areas for FireDance Ltd
and suggest ways to minimise the problems.
