Quick Detour #2:
Why move to the IBM Cloud?
©2015 IBM CorporationIBM ©2018 IBM Corporation 9
Fully-
managed
“analytics to see early-stage data
patterns and the scale and flexibility to
enable timely, innovative new services
that will meet guests’ expectations”
Blazing fast analytics “foundation for an
IT changeover designed to make internal
processes faster, more efficient, and
more adaptable”
“provides improved performance with
high efficiency, all in a secure
environment”
Companies Are Moving Data and Workloads to IBM Cloud
Bottom Line: Innovation and Cost Reduction with IBM

99.99% uptime SLA. Remote DR Locations also available
Hassle-free uptime with high availability plans.
Seamless rolling updates
Leverages Db2 HADR, floating IPs and automatic client re-route to fail over
gracefully.
Fully managed
Your system is hardened, optimized and monitored around the clock.
Scale the database when needed
You can build apps and as they grow you can grow your database.
Low cost
Pay for what you use, and leverage competitive pricing.

Db2 on Cloud
High Availability
• Single Node
• Daily automated backups
for recovery
• Off site by request –
soon to always be off
site
• Transaction logs are
archived.
• Monitored and managed for
availability
• Fault Monitor for restarts
• All recovery performed by
IBM
• 2 Nodes
• Active/Passive
• Hot / warm (failover typically
<3 minute)
• Automatic recovery after
failures
• Daily automatic backups
• Archive logs on Cloud
Storage
• Synchronous Replication
• All recovery performed by
IBM
Db2 on Cloud With
Disaster Recovery
Node Option
• 2 or 3 Nodes
• Active/Active (UR read)
• Can be added to a single
node or an HA node
• DR node can be in a different
data center or even a
different continent
• Super Asynchronous
Replication
• All recovery performed by
IBM
• Ability to manually takeover

What’s the difference between Db2 on Cloud and Db2 Hosted?
In sum, with Db2 Hosted, you get root access to install your own apps or do custom configurations. That’s sometimes needed for
lift & shift migrations.

What’s the difference between Db2 on Cloud and Db2 Hosted?
Rule of thumb:
• Use Db2 on Cloud for new development always. It’s fully
managed. Use it for existing systems that do not require deep
custom integrations
• Use Db2 Hosted for “lift and shift” migrations. Reason: You
may need root access to use custom software or
configurations.
