5G networks will enable 1000x greater mobile data volumes, 10-100x more connected devices, and 10x-100x faster end-user data rates compared to 4G networks. 5G will also improve latency and battery life. 5G will support new use cases like smart vehicles, human-machine interaction, media everywhere, and remote control of devices. Real-world tests show 5G technology achieving speeds up to 1 Gbps in 2016 and up to 10-20 Gbps in later years, depending on available spectrum and other network factors. Current studies are exploring using 5G as an alternative to fiber for delivering broadband to homes in suburban areas.
