What is MS-Word
Microsoft Word 2010 is a word processing
program designed to help you create
professional quality documents.
With the finest document formatting tools,
word helps us to create our documents more
efficiently.
It includes powerful editing and revising
tools.

The file menu is one you
will find yourself using
extensively. It is used to
create new documents,
open existing document
and saving your
new/updated documents.
It also includes the page
setup, print preview, and
other important functions
relating to your document
and its properties
1.New:- This creates a new Microsoft Word document. The page setup of the new
document. i.e., he size, margins, etc., will depend on your page settings
2.Open:- This opens and existing Microsoft Word document, it will open a file explorer
window allowing you to navigate to the file you want to open.
3.Close:- This will close the current word document. Microsoft Word may prompt you
to save the file, if you have made changes to the document since the last save.
4.Save:- Saves the current document, replacing the existing file (if previously saved).
5.Save As:- This allows you to save the document as a different file. When you click on
Save As you will be able to choose the filename and location of you document.
6.Page Setup:- This opens the page setup option dialog box. It allows you to set the
properties (dimensions, margins, etc.) of the current document and change the default
for new Microsoft Word Document.
7.Print review:- Selecting this option opens the print preview window, allowing you to
preview how your document will look when Printed.
8.Print:- Open the print dialog box allowing you to print the current document.
9.Send To:- Hovering your mouse over this option will allow you to send your
document via email, or export it to Microsoft PowerPoint (if installed).
10.Properties:- This will open the Microsoft Word document properties dialog box,
allowing you to view/edit various properties of the documents. Including author
information, statistics, type, location and file size of the document.
The Home Tab in
MS-Word
The Home Tab in MS word – Tutorial. The Home
Tab is by far the most important Tab in Microsoft
Word 2007. The Home Tab contains all the
commands that are used most often. These
include formatting commands like changing text
size, font style, font color, list types, and clipboard
functionality like Cut, Copy and Paste.
The Group of Home Tab includes:-
 CLIPBOARD:- Clipboard Group is the first group of Home tab in Microsoft office.
This group contains four options such as Paste, Cut, Copy, and Format painter.
Each of these options has their own task. But at generally all of them helps you to
add and remove text or corrector. And use any favorite format to other text.
 Font:- A font is a graphical representation of text that may include a
different typeface, point size, weight, color, or design. Software programs
like Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and WordPad allow users to change
the font used when typing text in the document or spreadsheet, as do web
designers.
 Paragraph:- The paragraph group is exhibited in the page layout tab of the MS-
Word document. In very documents, a paragraph will have various sections, which
describe a specific point or idea. This group includes spacing and indent options.
 Style:- A style is a collection of formatting instructions. You use styles to format
the paragraphs in your document. So you would use the "Title" style for your title,
"Body Text" style for body text, "Caption" style for the picture captions, and
"Heading 1" for the major headings.
 Edit:- The edit menu or toolbar in Microsoft Word allows users to perform
basic editing functions in their document such as copying, cutting and pasting. It
also contains options for the Undo and Find/Replace functions.

The Insert Tab is used to insert different
features such as tables, pictures, clip art,
shapes, charts, page numbers, word art,
headers, and footers into a document. The table
below describes each of the groups and buttons

The Page Layout Tab in
MS-Word
The Page Layout Tab lets you control the look and feel of your
document in Microsoft Word 2007. You can apply a global
design to your document by using one of the available
themes and color schemes. You can also change the
document orientation, page size, margins, indentation, line
spacing and paragraph settings

The Reference Tab in
MS-Word
The References Tab on Microsoft Word 2007's new
ribbon offers a quick way to enter your document
sources, citations and choose a style like APA, MLA
etc. On the References tab you will find things like
Table of Contents, Footnotes, Citations &
Bibliography, Table of Figures, Captions, Indexes and
Table of Authorities.
Mailing Tab in
MS-Word
Under the Mailings Tab, each group is used to
perform different steps in the mail merge process.
The Mailings tab can also be used to
create Mail Merges. Each group under this tab is
described in the table below. envelopes or to create
single sheets of labels.

The Review Tab in
MS-Word
Microsoft Word includes features that allow you to
track the changes made by multiple users, as well as
a review function that allows reviewers to insert their
comments within a document. These features are very
useful when you are part of a peer group assigned to
work on a project together.
