This document describes a traffic light control system using the IC 4017 counter and IC 555 timer. The system uses these integrated circuits along with LEDs, resistors, capacitors and diodes to sequentially illuminate red, yellow and green lights to control traffic flow. The IC 555 timer acts as a pulse generator whose timing is controlled by a potentiometer to vary the duration of each light. The counter IC then sequences the lights in the proper order based on the pulses from the timer. This provides an affordable way to automatically control traffic lights without needing more complex microprocessors.
