Disabled people and those with mental health issues face significant barriers to finding and maintaining employment. Only 45.5% of those with depression/anxiety and 26.2% of those with mental illness/phobias are employed, compared to 80.4% of non-disabled people. Barriers include fear of failure, lack of experience, worrying work may negatively impact health, and previous bad experiences. Additionally, mental health issues can be caused or exacerbated by work-related stress, with only 22% of managers receiving mental health training and many employees reluctant to seek support. Discrimination in the workplace also prevents some from standing up for their rights.
