• #4: Building an IT infrastructure is a challenge. Veritas Appliances and SDS solutions address four key challenges a customer will face.    Scale with Data Growth We all know data is growing exponentially. An infrastructure must scale with that growth. An organization can’t continually replace infrastructure as their data grows. Veritas appliances grow with your organization. You can start small and grow large by add storage as you need it. Our appliances are also tested at scale. You won’t run into the situation that performance degrades as capacity is added.    Enhanced Resiliency and Performance Veritas appliances are designed with the resiliency needed to be up and running 24/7/365. All our appliances are designed for resiliency at the component level. We choose the highest quality components and drives and we test them to insure they meet their specs and perform at the highest level. Redundant controllers are used in critical areas to insure a single failure will not cause unplanned downtime. Finally, we offer high availability configurations on most of or appliances, that reduce both planned and unplanned downtime.    We also do more than just install our software on hardware. We optimize the configuration so that they perform at the highest level right out of the box. We methodically identify performance bottlenecks through-out the design process and remove them until we have the system optimized for the highest performance.   Deliver Operational Efficiency We reduce operational cost throughout the lifecycle of the appliance.    First as I mentioned earlier we optimize the integration. This saves an enormous amount of time that would be needed choosing components, integrating the components and optimizing the integration.   Software upgrades are testing on our appliances before they are released. This insures that the upgrade process will be smooth. No surprises.    Our Autosupport monitors the appliance continuously to identify problems before they happen.    Increase Business Agility Putting together scale with growth, enhanced resiliency and performance and operational efficiency equals increased business agility. You can respond faster to the rapidly changing business environment without reinventing your infrastructure. 
• #5: In order to understand how Veritas is helping our customers. Let us take the example of "Acme Financial Services" As you can probably understand that most financial services organizations do not want to share the use of their names publicly and that’s why we’re calling this company Acme Acme Financial Services is on of the largest banks in the United States and  has been looking to improve their Data Protection and Long Term Retention strategies. Top of mind for Acme was  addressing the following challenges: Achieve On-Deman Data Protection while reducing the associated HW infrastructure requirements Eliminate the use of Tape in their LTR solution without increasing costs. Seamlessly adopt cloud using policy-based tiering from their existing infrastructure. Ensure predictive maintenance of their applainces to avoid unplanned outages and minimize downtime. We’ll go into each of these challenges in detail.
• #6: Lets start with the results we achieved for Acme. Using Veritas, Acme Financial services was able to achieve: 40% Reduction in TCO 66% Less HW Infrastructure requirments Zero usage of unreliable Tape $20million per year saving in reduced downtime Seamless integration with cloud using policy based tiering
• #7: Let's look at how Veritas helped Acme Financial Services with their On-Demand protection requirement.
• #8: ACME faces the typical challenges when building an infrastructure after they have chosen their software solution:   They must choose the hardware and integrate it with the software. Then they have to optimize the integration for the best performance and to make optimal use of the hardware. This is a specialized task and can take months of time to accomplish They must maintain the infrastructure. They must make sure all new software patches and upgrades are installed and tested on the hardware. Again, this is a specialized task that could consume weeks of time. In addition to software patches and upgrades they must be able to quickly adapt to rapidly changing business environment. This could involve quickly adding a new department or business unit or reconfiguring a solution for a new application.   Finally, they must support the infrastructure to make sure it is up and running 24/7/365. Potential sources of downtime must be quickly identified and resolved. 
• #9: The new Flex Appliance allows you to adapt your data protection solution, on-demand, as your business need change.    You can create or reconfigure a new NetBackup data protection solution in less than 5 minutes all through software. This solves the installation and integration challenge.    You can also consolidate multiple data protection infrastructures on a single flex appliance. This greatly simplifies your infrastructure, replacing multiple servers spread around the organization into a single appliance. This saves both capital, operational expenses and reduces support costs.   The Flex appliance can also run multiple software releases simultaneously. You can upgrade different applications and business units when appropriate. The days of the single enterprise wide upgrade are past. 
• #10:   We can do all of this on the Flex Appliance because it is based on container technology. It’s beyond hyperconverged.    NetBackup components are run in separate virtual containers. There are separate NetBackup Master, Media and CloudCatalyst containers. A new NetBackup infrastructure is simply created by choosing from the menu of NetBackup component containers and configuring them as needed by the business requirements. This is all done in software. No need to order, configure and rack-up in more boxes.    Upgrades are also simple. A new software release comes in a new container. Simply replace the older container with the new version.    If you need to connect to the cloud simply fire up a NetBackup CloudCatalyst container and connect it into the infrastructure.    Finally Flex saves cost. Consolidating multiple data protection deployments on a single appliance reduces data center footprint. Freeing up rack units, reducing power consumption, simplifying management and reducing maintenance and support costs. 
• #11: Today a backup and recovery infrastructure can be a sprawl of multiple and often incompatible components. 
• #12: Consolidate it all on a Flex Appliance. It    Simplifies your infrastructure Reduces costs Respond to the changing business environment on demand Deploy new services on demand with acquiring, installing or supporting additional HW   Simple is better. 
• #13: Now let's look at how Veritas helped Acme Financial Services eliminate the use of Tape in their LTR solution without increasing costs.
• #14: What are the key challenges with long-term data retention today? Limited budgets—need to improv SLAs and more capacity economically as possible Manging LTR risks associated with compliance, security, governance, legal and business continuity Aging Infrastructure—Need to reduce high support costs and maintenance requirements  A flexible IT infrastructure fit where deployment speed, agility, flexibility and responsiveness are prerequisites for success Scalability - How can customers economically scale their storage to keep up with the data growth? Security and compliance: How can customers manage regulatory constraints and risks without jeopardizing customer experience?
• #15: The Access Appliance fills a cost/performance gap between costly primary storage and economic (but lower-performing) tertiary storage like tape and public cloud. It allows large (PBs) of very cost-effective, on-premises storage while giving administrators a much lower RTO (Recovery Time Objective). In short, the appliance provides performance comparable to primary storage with the cost profile of tape or cloud 
• #16: Using our online cost-of-ownership tool, we can compare ownership costs of Veritas Access Appliance with that of a typical tape system. The tool is quite comprehensive—it takes into account factors like facilities costs (power requirements, floorspace, etc), data transfer costs (in the case of cloud comparison), deduplication factor, and required support levels.  As you can see on this slide, the TCO for a four-year period is nearly the same.  But the Access Appliance removes the challenges of tape—possibly corrupt data, high restore latency, and high support costs. 
• #17: Using the same tool, we can compare the four-year TCO of Access with Dell EMC’s Data Domain.  Both configurations are based on the same NetBackup Appliances for backup management; the Veritas solution features the Access Appliance 3340 for long-term retention; the Data Domain configuration employs Dell EMC Isilon for LTR.  The savings with the Access Appliance is substantial. 
• #18: Now let's look at how Veritas helped Acme Financial Services seamlessly adopt cloud using policy-based tiering.
• #19:  Acme is actively working on a cloud strategy. They are attracted by the economics of the cloud but have found several challenges.    They need a hybrid cloud strategy. Security and regulatory requirement mean they need to keep some data on-premises. They need an infrastructure that can easily move data in and out of the cloud while storing sensitive data on-premises cost-effectively.    They currently use tape for long term retention. But tape has several disadvantages. Recovery time is long. Tapes must be taken from a remote facility, and remounted on premises. This could take days to accomplish. Taking days to recover data could be a financial disaster in today’s environment. Tape costs are also increasing. Maintaining obsolete tape equipment is a cost that is a drain on crucial resources.    They are looking to the cloud as a potential tape replacement, but is brings several of the same disadvantages as tape. Recovery from long term-stores in the cloud such as Amazon Glacier or Microsoft Cool Blog storage could take days for a significant amount of data. Recovery time vs storage cost is a clear tradeoff in the cloud. Also, there is a significant difference in cost between moving data into the cloud and recovering from the cloud. Recovery cost is much higher. Recovery time and cost could be significant in an emergency.
• #20: With NetBackup, Flex and Access appliance you can build a hybrid cloud strategy that optimizes cost and performance.    The Access appliance offers cost-optimized long-term retention with much faster recovery times than possible with tape or the cloud.    NetBackup or the Flex appliances hold Copy 1 data for short or Mid-term retention and fast recovery. Copy 2 data can be tiered to the Access appliance where storage costs are lower but with recovery times possible with a disk based system. Sensitive copy 2 data can be retained on premises on the Access appliance for long-term retention. Less sensitive copy 3 data can be tiered to the cloud for long term retention.   
• #21: Veritas also helped Acme Financial Services ensure predictive maintenance and support of their applainces to avoid unplanned outages and minimize downtime.
• #22: TIME ESTIMATE: 2-3 min  GOAL OF SLIDE:  Understanding the support and maintenance challenge  DELIVERY:   As a modern organization, it is essential that the data is stored, managed and accessed as needed to meet business requirements. As a result - unplanned maintenance, increased downtime and missed SLAs have major impact on business. This has increased the focus and demands on the support team. Supports teams now have to deal with: Trends of the business such as Unplanned Storage Growth Preventable factors such as outdated firmware, missing patches and unresolved event Unforeseen factors/acts of god such as component failure  However it is now mandatory for support teams to try and gather more information, learn from past events and proactively try to prevent unplanned outages which increase downtime.

Prescriptive Fault Resolution: Ensures faster time to fault resolution by using AI/ML based analytics to accurately identify and resolve potential issues before they effect SLAs Reduced TCO: Minimizes customer TCO by utilizing smart forecasting and storage optimization. • #25: Before Veritas Acme had a sprawling infrastructure of incompatible components.    They had to do their own procurement, integration and performance optimization of software and hardware for multiple deployments    Keeping multiple deployments updated with the most current software releases was consuming more and more resources.    Supporting multiple, incompatible infrastructure deployments was increasing both capital and operational costs.   The sprawl of multiple incompatible deployments was taking up too much rack-space, consuming too much power and increasing heating and cooling costs.    They needed a better solution.   
• #26: Acme consolidated their data protection infrastructure sprawl on the Flex Appliance. Now they can respond to changes in data protection infrastructure demands in minutes rather than days. Integration and performance optimization is done by Veritas and upgrading to new software releases is simple. They can connect to the cloud in minutes by creating a new NetBackup CloudCatalyst container.    They brought in the Access appliance for long term retention. Now they have a hybrid cloud solution that meets the needs for fast recovery and on-premises storage of sensitive data. They can also tier less sensitive data off to the cloud for long term retention. They have a hybrid cloud solution lowers their total cost of storage.    They simplified their infrastructure so they can focus on their business rather than their infrastructure. Simpler is better.
