Management of
Natural Resources
made by-
Sushmitha Balamurugan
Shrishti Singh
What are natural resources?
• Materials that come from the Earth
• Something useful humans need to survive
NON RENEWABLE
• Natural resources found in
the ground
• Only a certain amount
• Once they are gone they
cannot be made or grown
again.
Coal
Oil
Natural Resources that CANNOT be
replaced
• Coal-used for electricity • Oil- (crude oil)
• Used for gasoline so cars,
planes and trains can run.
RENEWABLE
• Can be grown or made
again
• Never run out if we take
care of them
• Keeping Earth clean helps
protect these resources
Trees Plants
Animals Air
Sunlight Water
Why to manage our resources…?
• The resources on the Earth are
limited
• Preventing from exploitation for
short term gains
• All people can benefit from the
development of the resources
Flora and fauna
• A large area of land on
which trees and other plants
grow naturally is called a
forest.
• The wild animals and birds
which live in a forest, are
called wildlife.
Chipko Andolan (Hug the trees movement)
• Chipko movement started in the early
1970s in the Garhwal Himalayas of
Uttarakhand
• when a group of peasant women in
Reni village, acted to prevent the
cutting of trees and reclaim their
traditional forest rights that were
threatened by the contractor system of
the state Forest Department.
Water for all
Water: basic
necessity of all
forms of life…
Rain is a very
important
source of
water….
Shortage of water
Despite of good
rains we are not
able to meet the
demands of
water
Lack of sufficient
vegetation cover
on ground
pollution,
changing
lifestyle and
population
HYV seeds
require more
water for
irrigation
GANGA ACTION PLAN
• The Ganga Action Plan or GAP was a program launched
by Rajiv Gandhi in 1986 in order to reduce the pollution load
on the river.
• Human waste- domestic usage like bathing, laundry and public
defecation
• Industrial waste-dumping untreated waste into it.
• Religious events -During festival seasons, people bathe in the
Ganges to cleanse themselves from their sins.. A Hindu belief is
that dropping the ashes of cremated bodies (at Varanasi) in the
Ganges would give Moksha (liberation) to the jiva (soul).
