Collective Intelligence and Web 2.0 tools Presentation by Prof.K.Prabhakar [email_address]
Why the word collective intelligence and what is its significance? If we observe most of the events that take place around us, we only get information that is manufactured by to be consumed by an individual ( I will call them as “ WE THE PEOPLE OF THE WORLD ”). Can we make independent decisions from that of what is being provided by organizations and governments? The answer is “NO”. We have been told that Iraq is having Weapons of Mass Destruction. Have we got any evidence now? No. In the mean time war contractors started making billions. Manufactured Consent.
Manufactured Consent There are many occasions we are told by organizations that its products are scientific breakthroughs. However, Glaxo’s Ranitidine has proved to be no more effective than the treatments that are available at the time of invention by no less organization than Harvard. In the mean time Glaxo has made billions. Manufactured Consent . We can site hundreds of examples in History that are likely to affect our consent. Is there any mechanism to get away from succumbing to this process of Manufactured consent . YES. In this context I am examining Collective intelligence .
Wikipedia Wikipedia has proved to the world that collectively human are capable of taking care of themselves with our any regulators or army or government. Large number of bolgs crated by people who share their knowledge with the world have changed the way in which we make our decisions. We will see the confluence of technology and socially committed people has given raise to a new way of thinking and working. Which i call as unconvergence. We are putting individual with all empowerment so that he will be helped by others “ WE THE PEOPLE OF THE WORLD ”, in UNCONVERGECE .
Definition of Collective Intelligence it refers to the capacity of human communities to evolve towards higher order complexity and integration through collaboration and innovation . This blog wants to be an embodiment of what it is about. If you care, subscribe and contribute. Ref: http:// www.community - intelligence.com/blogs/public/archives/000283.html
Welcome to the World of Unconvergence WE THE PEOPLE OF THE WORLD
20 th Century Thinking If we look at 20 th century thinking with respect to organizations or products or services, they are outcomes of war. Most of the management concepts are borrowed from war. Are they really helpful to humans and sustainable in nature? That is are they not crated with social well being in view. I doubt. However, You will see in 21 st Century most of the content that is crated on the web after success of Wikipedia and others we find that they are created for betterment of human existence by other socially conscious human forces for other human forces to have a sustainable and fulfilling life. This Philosophy will be see every where in the social networks.
Knowledge and the 20 th Century traditions The 20 th century traditions regarding knowledge is linear, mechanical and reductionism thinking paired with their obsolete managerial behaviors of control, dominance and technocracy. We either became a cogs in machine or drops in ocean. Can we have our identify as well as be with the society and have a fulfilling existence? The answer to a large extent is yes if we can see the literature with respect to collective intelligence. I may be sounding too optimistic, however, it is going to be future.
Comment by George Por Top knowledge leaders routinely 'suspend their disbelief' to unlearn their harmful industrial-era habits and models. They learn from the emerging future through authentic conversation. 21st-century knowledge leaders actively pursue external interactions and continuously use genuine action/research networks to their strategic and collaborative advantage. http://www.community-intelligence.com/blogs/public/archives/000283.html
Another Definition of Social Intelligence " Social Cognitive (SC) is the property of systems whereby the collective behaviors of entities interacting locally with their environment cause coherent functional global patterns to emerge . Social Cognitive provides a basis with which it is possible to explore collective and distributed decision making, without centralized control or the provision of a global model.
Another Definition of Social Intelligence( from past slide) To tackle the formation of a coherent social collective intelligence from individual behaviors, it must consider concepts related to self-organization, and the social bounds. It also includes the role played not only by the environmental media as a driving force for societal learning, but also by positive and negative feedback produced by the interactions among agents. The results will be the collective adaptation of a social community to its dynamic cultural environment."
Some more ideas about Collective Intelligence Tom Atlee wrote in an email message: > A capacity usually involves both being and doing. It manifests > through doing, but usually requires some form of being. > > Intelligence manifests largely through solving problems. If you > can't solve problems of some type, most people wouldn't say you were > very intelligent. > > Intelligence is bigger than 'problem solving', but that's sort of a > core standard. > > Solving problems involves being able to see clearly, decide what's > relevant, reflect on it, not be prejudiced in ways that block your > ability to do these things, etc. These things are as much about > being as doing. > > Does one "apply" one's intelligence, or just "use" it?
Elements of Web 2.0 Contents You can go the site and obtain all the information.
Is there a place for new players? Yes. Can we create one more wiki? Why not there is enough space for innovate creations. If you want to know more about it, please visit http://www.community-intelligence.com/blogs/public/
