 God's essential nature is unchanging and
  unchangeable (Malachi 3:6; James 1:17),
 God's law is adapted to man's needs,
  therefore specific laws have changed in
  different dispensations (Gen. 6-9; 17:10; Exo
  20; Mat. 17:1-5; Heb. 1:1,2; 7:12).
 There are principles behind the law God
  gave through Moses which will help us
  understand God and how to please Him.
  (Rom. 15:4; Gal. 3:24; 2 Tim 3:15)

1. You shall have no other gods before   5. Honor your father and your mother.
                  Me.
                                                6. You shall not murder.
 2. You shall not make for yourself a
            carved image.                  7. You shall not commit adultery.

3. You shall not take the name of the            8. You shall not steal.
        Lord your God in vain.
                                          9. You shall not bear false witness.
4. Remember the Sabbath day, to keep
              it holy.                          10. You shall not covet.

       Exodus 20:13-17 (NKJV)
  13 "You shall not murder. 14 "You shall not
  commit adultery. 15 "You shall not steal. 16
 "You shall not bear false witness against your
     neighbor. 17 "You shall not covet your
  neighbor's house; you shall not covet your
 neighbor's wife, nor his male servant, nor his
female servant, nor his ox, nor his donkey, nor
       anything that is your neighbor's."
        Deuteronomy 5:17-21
Leviticus 6:1-7 (NKJV)
   1 And the LORD spoke to Moses, saying: 2 "If a

  person sins and commits a trespass against the
  LORD by lying to his neighbor about what was
delivered to him for safekeeping, or about a pledge,
 or about a robbery, or if he has extorted from his
neighbor, 3 or if he has found what was lost and lies
  concerning it, and swears falsely--in any one of
 these things that a man may do in which he sins:
Leviticus 6:1-7 (NKJV)
  4 then it shall be, because he has sinned and is

guilty, that he shall restore what he has stolen, or
   the thing which he has extorted, or what was
delivered to him for safekeeping, or the lost thing
 which he found, 5 or all that about which he has
 sworn falsely. He shall restore its full value, add
 one-fifth more to it, and give it to whomever it
    belongs, on the day of his trespass offering.

 'You shall not steal, nor deal falsely, nor lie to
  one another. – (11)
 'You shall not cheat your neighbor, nor rob
  him. The wages of him who is hired shall not
  remain with you all night until morning. – (13)
 'You shall do no injustice in judgment, in
  measurement of length, weight, or volume.
  You shall have honest scales, honest weights,
  an honest ephah, and an honest hin: - (35,36)

 If a man stole an ox or sheep and
  slaughtered it or sold it he had to repay
  five for one — (1)
 If a thief was killed in the process of
  committing theft there was no guilt — (2)
 The thief was to make full restitution – if
  he couldn’t – he was to be sold — (3)
 If the stolen property was found in one’s
  possession – he must repay double — (4)

 Isa 1:23 — “. . . companions of thieves; Everyone
  loves bribes, And follows after rewards . . .”
 Eze 22:13 — “. . . I beat My fists at the dishonest
  profit which you have made . . .”
 Eze 22:27 — “. . . are like wolves tearing the prey,
  to shed blood, to destroy people, and to get
  dishonest gain.”
 Eze 22:29 — “ . . . used oppressions, committed
  robbery, and mistreated the poor and needy;
  and they wrongfully oppress the stranger.”

 Theft - (Matt. 27:38; Luke 10:30; John
  12:6; 1 Pet. 4:15)
 Robbery - (Jn 18:40)
 Extortion - (Matt. 23:25)
 Pilfering – (Titus 2:10 NKJV) ―to purloin,
  embezzle, withdraw covertly and appropriate
  to one’s own use‖: —Thayer

 Take pay for work not done – (Luke 16:12)
 Not paying bills – (Rom 13:8)
 Not paying for work done – (James 5:4)
 Not respecting copyright laws – (1 Thes 4:6)
 Deliberately cheat or take advantage of
  another – (Luke 3:13)

 Forbidden – (Eph. 4:28; 1 Pet. 4:15)
 Will not go to heaven - (1 Cor. 6:10)
 Violates legitimate means of transfer –
  (Eph. 4:28) - (Labor – invest - Exchange –
  Love [gift])
 A matter of the heart – (Mat. 15:19)
 Violation of love – (Rom. 13:8-10; Matt. 7:12)

  Dependable – Caring -
  Giving
 Parents – teach your
  children to respect others
  property - (Eph. 6:4)

            Deuteronomy 19:15-21 (NKJV)
     15 "One witness shall not rise against a man

 concerning any iniquity or any sin that he commits;
 by the mouth of two or three witnesses the matter
shall be established. 16 If a false witness rises against
  any man to testify against him of wrongdoing, 17
then both men in the controversy shall stand before
  the LORD, before the priests and the judges who
                  serve in those days.

             Deuteronomy 19:15-21 (NKJV)
    18 And the judges shall make careful inquiry, and

    indeed, if the witness is a false witness, who has
testified falsely against his brother, 19 then you shall do
 to him as he thought to have done to his brother; so
  you shall put away the evil from among you. 20 And
  those who remain shall hear and fear, and hereafter
  they shall not again commit such evil among you. 21
Your eye shall not pity: life shall be for life, eye for eye,
      tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot.

      “To answer or give evidence against a person
     (Gen_30:33). To consciously gives utterance to
 falsehood, . . . From this it is evident, that not only is
lying prohibited, but false and unfounded evidence in
   general; and not only evidence before a judge, but
  false evidence of every kind, by which (according to
the context) the life, married relation, or property of a
   neighbour might be endangered (cf. Exo 23:1; Num
         35:30; Deu 17:6; Deu 19:15; Deu 22:13.).”

 Ex 23:6 — “You shall not pervert the
  judgment of your poor in his dispute”
 Ex 23:7 — “Keep yourself far from a false
  matter; do not kill the innocent and
  righteous. For I will not justify the wicked”
 Lev 19:11 — 'You shall not steal, nor deal
  falsely, nor lie to one another.
 Lev 19:16 — You shall not go about as a
  talebearer among your people; nor shall
  you take a stand against the life of your
  neighbor: I am the LORD.

 Ps 101:5-7 — “Whoever secretly
  slanders his neighbor, Him I will
  destroy; . . . 7 He who works deceit
  shall not dwell within my house; He
  who tells lies shall not continue in
  my presence.”
 Pr 10:18 — “Whoever spreads
  slander is a fool.”
 Pr 11:13 — “A talebearer reveals
  secrets, But he who is of a faithful
  spirit conceals a matter.”

 Prov. 6:16,17 - The Lord hates
  a lying tongue —
 Prov. 5:6 – “You shall destroy
  those who speak falsehood;
  The LORD abhors the
  bloodthirsty and deceitful
  man” –
 Prov. 12:22 - Lying lips are an
  abomination to the Lord —

 Eph. 4:31 — Let all bitterness,
  wrath, anger, clamor, and evil
  speaking be put away from you,
  with all malice.
 1 Tim. 1:10 — for fornicators, for
  sodomites, for kidnappers, for liars,
  for perjurers, and if there is any

  sound doctrine,
 2 Tim. 3:3 — unloving, unforgiving,
  slanderers, without self-control,
  brutal, despisers of good,

11 Do not speak evil of one another,

 brethren. He who speaks evil of a
   brother and judges his brother,
 speaks evil of the law and judges
  the law. But if you judge the law,
you are not a doer of the law but a
   judge. 12 There is one Lawgiver,
who is able to save and to destroy.
   Who are you to judge another?

   1 Peter 2:1-3 (NKJV)
1 Therefore, laying aside all

     malice, all deceit,
hypocrisy, envy, and all evil
  speaking, 2 as newborn
babes, desire the pure milk
of the word, that you may
       grow thereby,

   1 Corinthians 13:4-7 (NKJV)
   4 Love suffers long and is kind;

love does not envy; love does not
 parade itself, is not puffed up; 5
does not behave rudely, does not
   seek its own, is not provoked,
 thinks no evil; 6 does not rejoice
   in iniquity, but rejoices in the
 truth; 7 bears all things, believes
     all things, hopes all things,
          endures all things.

 We should demand
  truthfulness – for - “For all
  His ways are justice, A God of
  truth and without injustice;
  Righteous and upright is He..”
  (Deut. 32:4; John 1:14)
 We need to be trustworthy
  people – even though honesty
  sometimes hurts!

 Lying is harmful to self
  and others!
 Healthy relationships
  require trust!
 We need to be honest in
  all our dealings with
  others!
 We must be honest with
  the word of God!

  • 17. 17 Deuteronomy 19:15-21 (NKJV) 18 And the judges shall make careful inquiry, and indeed, if the witness is a false witness, who has testified falsely against his brother, 19 then you shall do to him as he thought to have done to his brother; so you shall put away the evil from among you. 20 And those who remain shall hear and fear, and hereafter they shall not again commit such evil among you. 21 Your eye shall not pity: life shall be for life, eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot.

For I will not justify the wicked”  Lev 19:11 — 'You shall not steal, nor deal falsely, nor lie to one another.  Lev 19:16 — You shall not go about as a talebearer among your people; nor shall you take a stand against the life of your neighbor: I am the LORD.
  • 20. 20  Ps 101:5-7 — “Whoever secretly slanders his neighbor, Him I will destroy; . . . 7 He who works deceit shall not dwell within my house; He who tells lies shall not continue in my presence.”  Pr 10:18 — “Whoever spreads slander is a fool.”  Pr 11:13 — “A talebearer reveals secrets, But he who is of a faithful spirit conceals a matter.”
  • 21. 21  Prov. 6:16,17 - The Lord hates a lying tongue —  Prov. 5:6 – “You shall destroy those who speak falsehood; The LORD abhors the bloodthirsty and deceitful man” –  Prov. 12:22 - Lying lips are an abomination to the Lord —

But if you judge the law, you are not a doer of the law but a judge. 12 There is one Lawgiver, who is able to save and to destroy. Who are you to judge another?

  • 26. 26  We should demand truthfulness – for - “For all His ways are justice, A God of truth and without injustice; Righteous and upright is He..” (Deut. 32:4; John 1:14)  We need to be trustworthy people – even though honesty sometimes hurts!
  • 27. 27  Lying is harmful to self and others!  Healthy relationships require trust!  We need to be honest in all our dealings with others!  We must be honest with the word of God!
