A network meta-analysis examined the effectiveness of various pharmacological interventions for smoking cessation, including nicotine replacement therapy (NRT), bupropion, varenicline, and cytisine. Results indicated that NRT, bupropion, varenicline, and cytisine significantly increase the chances of quitting smoking, with varenicline showing superior efficacy compared to single forms of NRT. The analysis also found that all treatments demonstrated acceptable safety profiles, warranting further research into cytisine's potential and the long-term safety of varenicline.
