  • #3: Time to right another blog aye? For many people this can be shear drudgery. I must come up with another idea for a blog that I really don’t care about and no one reads. That’s exciting. Want to add some zest to your blog? Find something you are passionate about and write about it. Find other people who are passionate about your ideas, lifestyle, business, organization, whatever it is and get them to help contribute.
  • #5: An example of a focused blog. Type “boat wiring” in Google and this site is on the first page ranked at or near the top. Why? Ed has been blogging about boat wiring for a number of years. He has written articles on the subject published in various online media sources with backlinks to his page.
  • #6: There is a lot of talk about socially driven search. In other words if you have 200 Facebook friends and decide to search on “How to adopt a dog?” Google and other search engines will look to see if someone in your network has searched on something similar. If so that content may be presented to you. However the majority of search results are still being generated by content optimization and paid advertising. Websites that are all about “How to adopt a dog” will definitely be presented on the first page. The bottom line is eMarketers must take a dual approach: 1). We must create pages that are optimized for our chosen keywords, build backlinks, and try to get on that first page. 2). We must create great content, build our social media networks, and try to involve ourselves in “conversations” associated with our value proposition reaffirming our mission and what we do.
  • #7: Cam, the presentation looked great.  One point I would hit on because it is so prevalent today in SERPS is the Google Search Plus Your World update which is where Google is artificially inflating ranking of content on Google + right now.  A quick magic bullet for an unkown blog is to build a Google + community and release some good content.  It could get shared easily as well as be on page 1 of organic.  This post from Search Engine land has some good graphics you could show.. http://searchengineland.com/googles-results-get-more-personal-with-search-plus-your-world-107285
  • #9: Doing a test run in AdWords is a really good idea.  I say this because that is the only way to get true keyword traffic data right now.  Google withholds all organic keyword query info if a user is logged into a Google account while doing their search, they will of course give you the keyword data if you want to buy the clicks **evil, evil Google**.
