A Closer Look
C9010 network director – up close and personal
C9010 network director – detailed
C9010 network director
• 8RU
• 10 half-width card slots (5 full-width)
• Two 2.56Tbps RPMs (4 SFP+ ports per RPM)
• Four 2,900W power supplies
• Three removable fan modules
• Tool-less mounting
• Cable management
• Optional ReadyRails™
• Side-side (right-left) suction cooling
• Three half-width line cards currently available
– 24-port SFP+ line card
– 24-port 10GBASE-T line card
– 6-port QSFP+ line card
C9010 network director
• Each half-width line card has 120Gbps
connection to each RPM (240Gbps for full-
width line cards)
• Each line card performs local switching (Leaf)
• Each RPM performs inter-line card switching
(Spine)
• Each RPM has 3 CPUs
– Control Processor (CP)
– Route Processor (RP)
– Line Processor (LP)
• C9010 currently supports 40 C1048P (2,000
Virtual Ports). 4,000 Virtual Ports in a
subsequent release
• Remaining ports can connect to any Ethernet
device/switch and provide standard
switching/routing functionality
• C9010 can be used without C1048P
C9010 network director – detailed (cont.)
C1048P rapid access node – detailed
C1048P rapid access node
• 1RU
• 48 10/100/1000BASE-T PoE+ ports
• Two SFP+ ports
• Two fixed 21Gbps stacking ports (stackable
up to 8 units)
• Internal 1000W power supply
• Utilizes MPS1000 for power redundancy
• Uses Broadcom Helix4 switching silicon
• Requires C9010 to operate
• Provides no local switching
(switching/routing is provided by the C9010)
Configuration
Step 1 – Configure the C9010
Step 2 – Pre-provision ports on the line
cards that will connect to rapid access
nodes
• PE ID
• PE Type
• Any other config (Qos, etc.)
Step 3 – Power up C1048P
• Boots from FLASH
• Elects its role in stack
• Forms/joins stack
Step 4 – Connect C1048P uplink(s) to pre-
provisioned ports on the C9010
Plug & play
Step 5 – C1048P sends PE TLV on the
uplink(s)
Step 6 – Once C9010 detects PE TLV, it
advertises PE provision information for
C1048P to accept
Step 7 – C1048P configures itself and
becomes operational
Step 8 – C1048P performs no local
switching, but provides:
• PoE+ power
• QoS
• Loop detection
Thanks!

  • 18. C9010 network director – detailed C9010 network director • 8RU • 10 half-width card slots (5 full-width) • Two 2.56Tbps RPMs (4 SFP+ ports per RPM) • Four 2,900W power supplies • Three removable fan modules • Tool-less mounting • Cable management • Optional ReadyRails™ • Side-side (right-left) suction cooling • Three half-width line cards currently available – 24-port SFP+ line card – 24-port 10GBASE-T line card – 6-port QSFP+ line card
  • 19. C9010 network director • Each half-width line card has 120Gbps connection to each RPM (240Gbps for full- width line cards) • Each line card performs local switching (Leaf) • Each RPM performs inter-line card switching (Spine) • Each RPM has 3 CPUs – Control Processor (CP) – Route Processor (RP) – Line Processor (LP) • C9010 currently supports 40 C1048P (2,000 Virtual Ports). 4,000 Virtual Ports in a subsequent release • Remaining ports can connect to any Ethernet device/switch and provide standard switching/routing functionality • C9010 can be used without C1048P C9010 network director – detailed (cont.)
  • 20. C1048P rapid access node – detailed C1048P rapid access node • 1RU • 48 10/100/1000BASE-T PoE+ ports • Two SFP+ ports • Two fixed 21Gbps stacking ports (stackable up to 8 units) • Internal 1000W power supply • Utilizes MPS1000 for power redundancy • Uses Broadcom Helix4 switching silicon • Requires C9010 to operate • Provides no local switching (switching/routing is provided by the C9010)
  • 21. Configuration Step 1 – Configure the C9010 Step 2 – Pre-provision ports on the line cards that will connect to rapid access nodes • PE ID • PE Type • Any other config (Qos, etc.) Step 3 – Power up C1048P • Boots from FLASH • Elects its role in stack • Forms/joins stack Step 4 – Connect C1048P uplink(s) to pre- provisioned ports on the C9010
  • 22. Plug & play Step 5 – C1048P sends PE TLV on the uplink(s) Step 6 – Once C9010 detects PE TLV, it advertises PE provision information for C1048P to accept Step 7 – C1048P configures itself and becomes operational Step 8 – C1048P performs no local switching, but provides: • PoE+ power • QoS • Loop detection
