• To support the Government of Nepal in developing a

• To initiate a multi-stakeholder participatory process
with the Government of Nepal and civil society
organizations.
• To identify short to medium term disaster risk
reduction priorities that are both urgent and viable
within the current institutional and policy
arrangements in the country.
Consortium objectives
13
www.unisdr.org

• Flagship Coordinators: ADB, IFRC, UNDP, UNISDR,
OCHA and World Bank, Led by the HC/RC
• Reflects priorities of the Hyogo Framework for Action
• Follows main recommendations of the 2009 Global
Platform
• National Strategy for Disaster Risk Management
approved by the Cabinet of Nepal October 2009
• Proposed programme budget: US $131 million (for 3
years)
• Steering Committee formed, high-level event
planned.
Facts and figures

15
Observations
15
• Clear added benefit of coordination: more actors
involved in DRR and efforts should be
complementary:
- Lack of coordination leads to duplication, some areas receive
less focus than needed
• Good to get all main partners working towards a
common set of government-approved DRR activities.
• Good to ensure that all in-country resources are being
mapped against those targets.
• Inclusion of NGOs and civil society.
• Explicit linkages/synergies with CCA still needed.
