Editor's Notes

  • #5: They are gravitating towards a more “equal” form of mentoring - meaning that the concept of “Top/down” matching is less and less meeting their needs – it is getting away from just getting a match based on “job title” and more on “where can I get the development I desire” (notice the focus is on “desire”) Research is also finding that they prefer mentoring in a more casual setting – which brings us to the introduction of some more modern ways in which mentoring can be implemented…
  • #24: Also inform mentees that they need to prepare specific, targeted questions for the mentor.
  • #26: NOTE TO KATIE: I have changed the order on this In order to determine which organizational model meets your needs, you must first examine all of the elements that we discussed in the previous slide, plus: What are the people in your organization asking for? If you have had a previous program – How successful was that program or how successful is your present program? What’s the current and future demographic breakdown look like of individuals that may be the primary users of mentoring? The next steps you need to take to ensure implementation of any of these concepts: Determine the organizational objectives for the mentoring initiative. Determine how you will measure results. Ensure everyone understands how to implement their roles.
