 A simple sentence contains a subject and a
verb. It is an independent sentence because it
can stand alone.
 Ex: Ted did his homework on a Saturday night.
 A compound sentence contains two
independent clauses joined by a coordinating
conjunction.
 Ex: I tried to take Spanish, and Kobe did too.
 A complex sentence has a independent clause
joined by one or more dependent clauses. A
complex sentence also always has a
subordinator.
 Ex: When he handed in his homework, he
forgot to give the teacher the last page.
 A compound complex sentence is made from
two independent clauses and one or more
dependent clauses.
 Ex: Although I like to go camping, I haven't
had the time to go lately, and I haven’t found
anyone to go with.

 An imperative sentence usually tells a
command.
 Ex: Aj get your but down here and clean your
room.
 A declarative sentence makes a statement. It is
also marked by a period.
 Ex: I have basketball practice on Mondays and
Wednesdays.
 An interrogative sentence asks a question. It is
marked with a question mark.
 Ex: Where did you put my basketball?
 An exclamatory sentence expresses great
emotion or excitement. It ends with an
exclamation mark.
 I cant wait until my birthday which is October
12!
