Greetings
Good morning. Good morning,
Ma’am.
Before we start our lesson, let’s first have an activity.
We will call this activity “A Chain of Words”. In this
activity, I will give you a letter and you have to think of
a noun that starts with that letter. For example, I gave
you letter “e”, the word that you should give me
should be a word like “elephant”. Next, the person
next to you will give a noun that starts with the last
letter of the first word given. The last letter of the
word elephant is “t”, so you must think of a noun that
starts with “t” like “train”. Then, the cycle continues,
the next person will think of a noun that starts with
the last letter of the previous word.
Motivation
e – elephant – train – nut – tree - eggplant
So, let’s now proceed to the discussion of our new
lesson.
Our lesson for today is all about the different
functions of nouns. Nouns can function as a
subject, an object (object of the preposition, direct
object, indirect object), and a subject complement
in a sentence.
Arya Stark is really cool.
(as subject)
They were supposed to meet at noon.
(as object of preposition)
Jeremy is a swimmer.
(as subject complement)
The beavers built a dam.
(as direct object)
He gave Maria a love letter.
(as indirect object)
Now, can you give me your own
examples for each function of nouns?
Harry is a good boy.
(Harry is the noun
used as a subject)
Very good!
They will see each
other at midnight.
(Midnight is the
noun used as an
object of
preposition)
Very good!
Charlene is a singer.
(Singer is the noun
used as a subject
complement)
Very good! Let’s now move
on to our activity.
Use the following nouns as
indicated in the parentheses.
1. ball (as a subject)
2. envelope (as object of
preposition)
3. Taylor (as a subject)
4. driver (as a subject
complement)
5. Tommy (as indirect object)
Assignment
Write a one-paragraph
narration of your
memorable summer
vacation using the
functions of noun.
Okay, that’s all
for today.
Goodbye, class.
