Name of Event: International Yoga Day
Date: 21/06/2019
Description: International Yoga Day was celebrated in the Department of English. It was celebrated to raise
health awareness among the students. Along with the physical exercises, in which 20 students participated; a
discussion on the concept of Yogic practices and their significance for human health was also organized.

Name of the Event: Movie Screening:
1) Modern Times - 25-06-19; 2) Article 15 - 04-07-19; 3) Welcome Zindagi (Gujarati play) - 28-06-19
4) Super 30 – 01-08-19; 5) The Black Prince – 10-08-19;
Description: Literature is not restricted to reading the traditional texts; it also encompasses the reading of the
texts of the 21st
century, i.e. movies. With an aim to teach students how to read and critically analyze these
‘texts’ the Department of English organizes movie screenings and theatre visits. Screenings are also a part of the
curriculum; students watch the film version of the texts in their curriculum and engage in a comparative study of
them.

Name of the event: Talk on Argument and Critical Thinking by Tapan
Date: 26-06-2019
Description: For developing the argumentative and critical thinking skills among the students, the Department
of English organized a guest lecture presided by Mr. Tapan Shah. 50 students participated in the event.

Name of the event: Understanding Disabilities of Divyang Students
Date: 28-06-2019
Description: 40 students visited Ankur School; an institute working for the education and welfare of the
mentally challenged children. The students observed how the teaching and learning practices differ from the
traditional educational techniques and systems as well as how they demand a large amount of patience from the
teacher and instructors.

Name of the event: Talk on Ecological Sensibility by Bharatsinh Gohil
Date: 02-07-2019
Description: Around 44 students attended the discussion on ecological sensibility presided by Mr. Bharatsinh
Gohil. Mr. Bharat argued how there was an urgency to think about the ecological surroundings around us. He
also discussed how we need to preserve the natural resources as an act of concern for the animals and birds that
are on the verge of extinction.

Name of the event: YOLO - Motivational Talk by Himal Pandya
Date: 08-07-2019
Description: Mr. Himal Pandya talked on the importance of living in the moment and making a wise use of the
time we have. He emphasized the need for sympathy and empathy among humans. His way discussion attracted
the attention of the 45 students who attended the session.

Name of the event: Reflective Teaching: Amalgamation through Melody
Guest: Dr Atul Kanaiya
Date: 09-07-2019
Description: Around 50 students attended the guest lecture presided by Dr. Atul Kanaiya who argued in favor of
innovation in pedagogical techniques. He emphasized the need for reflective thinking in framing of the teaching
methods and techniques.

Name of the event: Library Visit
Date: 11-07-2019
Description: Around 50 students visited the Central Library. The students got acquainted with the functions and
significance of a library. They also learned how the books are borrowed and submitted after the integration of
technological devices in the library for the same.

Name of the event: Workshop on CV Writing and Facing Interviews by District
Employment Exchange
Talk on Consumer Rights by Vivek Patki (M.R. Pai Foundation, Mumbai)
Date: 25-07-2019
Description: Around 46 students participated in the workshop which was aimed at teaching students how to
face interviews and the kind of skills required for the same. In the second session presided by Mr. Patki, the
students got acquainted with the rights and responsibilities of a consumer.

Name of the event: Expert Lectures on Metaphysical Poetry
By: R.K Mandaliya
Date: 16th, 17th and 18th August 2019
Description: The Department organized expert lectures by Dr. R.K. Mandaliya who taught metaphysical poetry
to the students of semester 1. His method of teaching and ways of explanation helped the students to better
understand the topic.

Name of the event: Expert Lectures on E.A. Poe’s Short Stories

Date: 16th, 17th and 18th August 2019
Description: The Department of English organized expert lectures by Dr. Jay Mehta, who discussed Edgar
Allan Poe’s writing style as well as the characteristics of Poe’s stories with the students of semester 3.

Name of the event: Expert Lectures on Post Colonial Studies
By: Prof. Balaji Ranganathan
Date: 19th, 20th and 21st August 2019
Description: The Department of English organized expert lectures by Balaji Ranganathan who dealt with Post
colonial studies a part of the curriculum of semester 3. His archivist attitude and historical sense helped the
students to better understand the topic.

Name of the event: National Sports Day and the Launch of Fit India Movement
Date: 29-08-19
Description: Around 20 students participated in the celebration of National Sports Day and the launch of the Fit
India Movement. The students played various games and engaged in a discussion on the need for sports and
exercises for human health.

Name of the event: Memory Tree Plantation and Campus Cleanliness Drive
Date: 31-08-19
Description: With a belief in conservation of the natural resources as well as maintaining the ecological
surroundings healthy the Department organized tree plantation. Around 40 students enthusiastically participated
in the event.

Name of the event: Workshop on Technology Integration
Date: 10th and 11th September 2019
Description: The Department of English organized an ICT workshop in order to make the students well-versed
with the technological tools. The students were taught how to use technological tools wisely for their academic
purposes. Almost 50 students participated in the event.

Date: 4th to 7th October 2019
Description: As a part of literary studies, it is essential to observe and study how the students understand the
literary texts, taught to them. The presentations are therefore an integral part of the curriculum. The topics of the
presentations catered to Renaissance age, Neo-classical age, Literary Criticism, and Indian English literature,
respectively
.

Description: As a part of literary studies, it is essential to observe and study how the students understand the

It is also obligatory for a Ph.D student to attend and present research papers in seminars and conferences.
Therefore, I attended and presented research papers in the following conferences:
• Aahuti Dhandhukiya presented a paper titled “Stigma of Disability and Self-conception in Salman
Rushdie’s The Moor’s Last Sigh” in 5th
Annual International Conference Indian Social Sciences and
Humanities Congress 2019 (SAMAGAM 2019) organized by Paschimbanga Anchalik Itihas
Loksanskriti Charcha Kendra in Collaboration with Department of Library and Information Science,
This was an international conference on Language,
Innovation, Culture, and Education (ICLICE). It was
organized on 12th
June, 2019 by Academics Conference
Network in association with Science Globe. In this
conference, I presented a paper on “ESL Postgraduate
students’ Self-Perceived Performance in oral
Presentation: Case of Maharaja Krishnakumarsinhji
Bhavnagar University”. The objectives of this paper was
to investigate self-perceived performance among L2
postgraduate students in one Indian University in order to
determine their needs in oral presentation
This was an International Conference on English
Learning and Teaching Skills (ICELTS). It was
organized by the Institute of Engineering and
Management on 25th
-27th
July, 2019 in Calcutta
(Kolkata). This conference brought together participants
from different countries working in the area of English
Language Teaching (ELT), Literature studies and
Applied Linguistics. Some of the participants were
working or worked on topics similar to my PhD topic.
Therefore, I got valuable insight from them.
In this conference, I presented a paper on “Construing
Criticality in Essay Genre in English Literature”. The
objective of this paper was to analyze the linguistic
and discourse features associated with enacting critical
stance and demonstrating disciplinary knowledge in
University essay genre in literature studies. After the
presentation, I got insightful comments from the
audience. This paper is closely similar to my PhD
thesis.

by the Department of Basic Science and Humanities, Institute of Engineering and Management, Kolkata
on 25th
July, 2019. The resource person was Mr. Corey Woodark from the University of Arkansas.
✓ Workshop on “CALL to MALL: Computer Assisted Language Learning to Mobile Assisted
Language Learning”, organized by the Department of Basic Science and Humanities, Institute of
Engineering and Management, Kolkata on 26th
July, 2019. The resource person was Dr. Shravan Kumar,
ELT@I President.
✓ Workshops on “Communication Skills: Presentation, Personality, and Speaking Skills” organized by
the Department of Basic Science and Humanities, Institute of Engineering and Management, Kolkata on
27th
July, 2019. The resource person was Dr. Anjana Maitra from the University of Rourkella.
