This study investigates whether the prophylactic use of biologic mesh reduces the incidence of incisional hernia in high-risk patients undergoing open roux-en-y gastric bypass. Results indicate a significant reduction in hernia incidence for patients who received mesh (2.3%) compared to those who did not (17.7%). The data suggest that biologic mesh placement may be effective in preventing incisional hernias with minimal added morbidity, primarily an increase in seroma formation.
