Android is an open-source, Linux-based operating system designed for touchscreen mobile devices. Initially developed by Android Inc., which was later acquired by Google, Android was unveiled in 2007 alongside the Open Handset Alliance, a consortium devoted to advancing open standards for mobile devices. The first Android phone was sold in 2008. Android has become the most widely used smartphone platform due to its open nature, large developer community, and customizable operating system. It is used by many technology companies for devices like smartphones, tablets, TVs and other electronics.
