- 2. Information: 1. That is expressed, that flows, that is to inform; is Information. – The source entity expresses its attributes, ideas, emotions in a stream like flow – There is a medium that carries the flow from the source to the intended and interested parties – It is perceived by the receiver and receiver is informed with a new fact
- 3. Information: 2. For ease of expression and transmission by sensors, it is encoded. – The source expresses itself by the means of sound, touch, size & shape, smell and taste – There is an encoding scheme by which each type of stream flows through space, air, light & heat, liquid and solid media – The receiver’s sensors capture and assemble the whole expression as a whole from multiple encoded streams!
- 4. Information: 3. The state of the System is altered in some way as the information flows (i.e., is consumed.) – The purpose of information is to impress the ‘receiver subsystem’ in some way by the ‘source subsystem’. – The information changes the way the overall environment behaves or acts creating an event. – Events trigger further information to flow and the system continues through state changes both gradually and spontaneously.

The System reaches a perfect equilibrium when the information flow is “just right” – The provider subsystem provides accurate and timely information to the consumer subsystem to function smoothly without needing to generate additional events in the system environment. – The –ve expression for the same is “system dies when the entropy is at the maximum” • Entropy is the amount of unusable information that hinders the flow….
- 6. Technology: 5. Application of technique to achieve optimal information flow is Information Technology. – A process of studying and achieving ease in accomplishing a task is the technique – Applying technique to optimize a sequence of tasks is the purpose of technology.

Techniques are needed to efficiently encode, secure, transmit, store, retrieve, dec ode the messages of an information stream. – The encoded message segments are called data – The process of encoding and storing data gives an opportunity to manipulate & process data to derive new inferences thereby generating new insights of the information flow – different perspective of the state of the system….

Information Systems are purpose built configurations of electronic devices to tap on to streams of information for the purpose of processing data. – Open systems that “consume information from” and “produce information into” the higher level complex system. – Each information system built for a set of data processing needs.

This Universe is a closed complex system comprising of open systems as its components. – Constituted by innumerable galaxies, stars, solar systems, planets, layers of atmosphere, ecosystems, biomes, habitats, cultural systems, political systems, businesses, humans, living cells, atoms, fundamental particles, spectrum of energies…. – Cyclically evolving, sustaining and dissolving exchanging flows of information AND energy & matter
- 10. Conclusion: Technology Information Celebrating 8888 days of my association with Information Technology and a 1000 weeks of work experience in optimizing information flows and processing of data across the systems on this tiny spaceship called Earth with its 7 billion human travelers!
