Dear Mr Hawkins,
I am writing to you in order to apply for a position within this year’s production Billy Elliot. I would
like to apply to become the Deputy Stage Manager for multiple reasons. First of all this role is of
interest to me as a career path, so would like to gain some experience with it before I fully commit
to that career line. I feel I would fit the job as I am a hard-working and organised individual
especially with regards to time management (evidenced by this year in Starlight Express, taking on 4
roles within the production; Media, ASM, Visuals and Sound), in which I feel are qualities required
for this role. I have had previous experiences of being an Assistant Stage Manager two years in a row
now; ‘Singin’ in the Rain’ and ‘Starlight Express’, so have a good idea of what this role consists of. I
am also fairly confident with communicating with teachers and have a good understanding of the
other roles within the production as I have interest in them all, in which is also useful for this role.
If I don’t get the chance to become a Deputy Stage Manager then I would like to apply to help with
mic-ing the cast up of which I enjoyed doing, but would also like to get to know more about the desk
and the technicalities of that, also to have more of an insight as to what a sound operator does. I feel
that I would be suited to this role as I feel I have ‘an ear’ for sound and know what sounds right or
wrong. I am also organised and able to follow a script well, if I needed to add a sound effect or turn a
mic on at a specific time.
Many thanks
