The Six
Features of a
Curriculum
1. Who teaches?
The Teacher
 Quality Education requires quality
teachers.
 They are ideal companions
of the learners.
2. Who do the teachers teach?
The Learners
The learners are at the center stage in
the educative process.
They are the most important factors
in the learning environment.
3. What do the teachers teach?
Knowledge, Skills, Values
“”” ”To help the learners cope with rapid
changes to understand and to succeed in
the new work in the workplace, we must
design a curriculum oriented to tomorrow.”
The learning episode influences the
teaching-learning process.
4. How do teachers teach?
Strategies & Methods
Teacher must use methodologies,
approaches and strategies “capped with
compassionate and winsome nature”.
Teachers should select teaching methods,
learning activities and instructional
materials or resources appropriate to
learners and aligned to objectives of the
lesson.
appropriate
5. How much of the teaching
was learned?
Performance
Performance is a feature of a
curriculum that should be given
emphasis.
A good curriculum is one that results
in high or excellent performance.
6. With whom do we teach?
Community Partners
Teachers must established relationship
with parents, NGO’s and their
takeholders.
 Partnership is a means and not an
end to be pursued
Approaches
to
Curriculum
Design
The common approaches to
curriculum design includes:
Child or Learner-Centered
Approach
Subject-Centered Approach
Problem-centered and human
relation-centered approach
Child or Learner-Centered
Approach
This approach to curriculum
design is based on the
underlying philosophy that the
child is the center of the
educational process.
Subject-Centered
Approach
The primary focus is the subject matter.
The emphasis is on bits and pieces of
information which are detached from life.
The subject matter serves as means of
identifying problems in living.
Problem-Centered
Approach
This approach is based on a
curriculum design which assumes
that in the process of living,
children experience problems.

Editor's Notes

  • #2 Good Morning. From the previous lesson we’ve talked about the curriculum design but now we will talk about approaches… Az u analyze the different phases of curriculum design …But Before that let’s examine first the…
  • #4 Good teachers bring a shining light into the learning environment. You are the one who will help to acquire knowledge and values. You are the one who ha a great influence in the life of your students. They xay that you cannot teach hat u don’t kno xo donn’t resist learning. You need to learn more, that’s why you are this institution. Because you need to be prepared. You need to be equipped. For u to be an effective teacher. You are already in third year, I believe xome of u naxet na xa mind niyo n mgiging teacher kayo. Xome of ux Maybe now u are just into money, degrees or that diploma, but remember , those are just papers tho we also need that. Don’t strive just for that, strive changing a life.
  • #5 There is no teaching without them. Remember that! Every learner is a unique individual. Hence, their needs should be addressed and be met that’s why you as a teacher you need to provide learning opportunities and varied experiences.
  • #6 One of the challenging factor in education is the change. We don’t know what will happen tomorrow but still be prepared. For the next ten years, are you confident enough that all of your discussions ill be remembered by your students? Maybe 1/4 , ½, ¾. Don’t just focus on what they learn, but how they learn and how they will continue to learn. Learning is a process. Hindi agadagad. But still do your job.
  • #7 There is no best strategy or method that could work in a million of different student background, but there is an appropriate strategy or method for every learnerthat aligned with your objective.
  • #8 At the end of the teaching act, it is necessary to find out if the objectives set were accomplished. In curriculum e call this a learning outcomes. These learning outcomes indicate both the performance of the teacher and the students. You can assess your student and yourself through this. However if the performance is low then the curriculum has failed.
  • #9 teaching is a collaborative undertaking. While teachers are the focal point in the learning process, they must draw upon the resources of their environment and of their partners to be effective. An absence of partnership often means a poor definition of education ends.
  • #10 In the prev lesson…. Curriculum De-The arrangement of the elements of a curriculum into a substantive entity An approach to curriculum reflects the person’s view of the world
  • #12 curriculum is constructed based on the needs, interests, purposes and abilities of the learner. Curriculum is also built upon the learner’s knowledge, skills, learning and potentials. In this approach sel discovery and self direction was embraced.. In here we give children time to hone their skills and capacities.
  • #13 Anchored on the curriculum design which prescribes different and separate subjects into one broad field. In this approach, Success means the mastery of the content.
  • #14 . Thus, problem solving enables the learners to become increasingly able to achieve complete or total development as individuals. In this approach, the learners become more independent because the learners are considered the problem solver. Case study is popularly utilzed in this approach.
