- 2. What are they? Socrative and Kahoot are student response systems used for formative assessment in the classroom. I have used both software in my classroom at different times and with varying results. Reviews comparing these two software both agree that while both free products are a benefit to the classroom, each has it’s strengths and weaknesses.

Socrative Pros and Cons Socrative Pros Cons • Use "quick question" feature to ask an impromptu question with no prep necessary • Does not show final individual score to user • Students have to enter their names for each session, allowing for errors • The short answer option for the "quick question" can start class discussions as all answers can be seen with the choice of being anonymous. • Student can not review questions or their answers after the session has ended • No passwords required besides entering the classroom number

Kahoot Pros and Cons Kahoot Pros Cons • Game-like feel increases motivation for students • Student can't see quiz question or results after class • Link to game can be copied to another place for student use later • Difficult to print for paper copies • Students can’t see the question on their device.
- 6. Recommendation After reviewing both products, Kahoot and Socrative for the purpose of formative assessment in the classroom, Socrative is the better software. Socrative offers more features, especially multiple question and answer formats, reports with individual or question specific statistics, and instantly generated question results for checking class comprehension. All of these features enhance student interaction, participation, and ownership, the very goal of integrating technology in the classroom. Recommendation: Socrative
