This paper discusses automatic thresholding techniques for segmenting synthetic aperture radar (SAR) images, highlighting the complexities introduced by speckle noise. The authors present five thresholding methods, including the Otsu method, which is shown to be effective in enhancing object detection in various SAR images. Experimental results indicate that while all techniques yield good results, Otsu method demonstrates the smallest region non-uniformity and best inter-region contrast in multiple test scenarios.
