Menstruation
The process in a women of discharging blood
and other material from the lining of the uterus
at intervals of 25 days from puberty to
menopause except during pregnancy..
What Causes a Period?
• A period happens because of changes in hormones in
the body.
• Hormones are chemical mesengers. The ovaries
release the female hormones estrogen and progesteron
• These hormones cause the lining of the uterus (or
womb) to build up.
• The built-up lining is ready for a fertilized egg to attach
to and start developing.
• If there is no fertilized egg, the lining breaks down and
bleeds. Then the same process happens all over again.
Once the egg leaves from the ovary, it travels
through fallopian towards uterus…

Toxic chemicals in napkin
 Volatile Organic Chemicals- acetone, iso
propyl alcohol, toluene
 Organic pollutant- dioxine and furans
Side effects of market sanitary napkins.
Pesticide grown cotton-Chemicals stay for long
time.
Continuous exposure leads to
1.infertility,
2.Hormonal disruption
3.Thyroid malfunction, diabetes,
endometriosis and depression
Disadvantages of napkins
 They carry streams-affect internal organs.
 Sanitary pads BPA (Bisphenol A)and other
chemicals –cancer
 Interfere with the reproductive system
 Presence of pesticides and herbicides
directly mix with blood have fibre that are
chlorine bleached-clean & sterile
appearance
 Bleaching process- dioxin, _Pelvic
inflammatory disease, hormone dysfunction,
endometriosis and even cancer.
