  Brainstorming and Discussion– Brainstorming is where students both in a group or in pairs, comes together and make suggestions based on their own personal ideas. Students are also asked to write whatever comes to their mind in relation to the topic. According to The Writing Center at the University of North Carolina – Chapel Hill “whether you are starting with too much information or not enough, brainstorming can help you to put a new writing task in motion or revive a project that hasn’t reach completion.” Discussions is where after the teacher have informed the students of the topic, they can discuss among each other what they know about the topic. Brainstorming and discussion goes together and this strategy can be used for: A Standard 5 class, during Social Studies class. The teacher can place students in groups and ask them to discuss the ocean and what sort of animals lives there. The teacher can suggest that the each group create a resort on the beach and name the resort. The groups would have to brainstorm to come up with a name and the different type of animals that lives in the ocean. A Standard 4 class, Art class. Students should be place in groups and the teacher can ask each group to draw a symbol and come up with a name to represent their groups. Brainstorming and discussion would take place in order to determine each group name and their group symbol. A Standard 2 class, Language Arts class. Teachers can give students a passage to analyze. Many questions regarding the passage should be asked, this is where students can be placed in groups of two’s or three’s and worked together to answer the questions. A discussion among each group regarding the moral of the passage can take place.
