ABOUT THE RESEARCH REPORT
December 31 last year, China alerted WHO to several cases of people being affected by an
unknown “Virus”. The new disease was called COVID-19 and the virus causing it was identified as
SARS_CoV2/ COVID-19 virus, a member of the Coronavirus family, which includes SARS, MERS and
the common cold.
There is no known cure for this new strain of Coronavirus but big pharmaceuticals are collaborating
with the Governments around the globe for providing treatment for this pathogenic virus.
The virus can be transmitted through various means, one of them being infected surfaces,
objects and food items. recent studies have also shown that the virus could remain in the
suspended air particles for sometime. Therefore, there is an urgent requirement for identifying
methods and techniques to disinfect and sterilize such infected objects, surface and food items.
One such method of sterilization is using Ultra Violet Radiation (UVR). Seoul Viosys, a
subsidiary of Seoul Semiconductor has reported sterilization of the new coronavirus using using
UVR and is all set to launch portable products for sterilization.
