Meaningful Use
In order for healthcare providers and
facilities to reap the benefits offered
by ARRA, they must show
“meaningful use.” Meaningful use
means you are using CPOE and EMR
in a meaningful way. This includes:
Using a certified EMR system
Showing that you provide care to
patients on Medicare or Medicaid
Collecting the information required
by the government
Tracking patient conditions
Providing patients access to their
records
Ability to communicate with other
healthcare providers

The ARRA is a law that was
enacted on February 17,
2009
by President Barack Obama. It
is also known as the Economic
Stimulus Package. The law set
aside money for hospitals,
facilities and healthcare
providers to implement
electronic medical record
(EMR) software.
The goal of ARRA is to shift
from paper to electronic record
keeping.
