ATHERTON CORRIDOR IMPROVEMENT PROJECT • Summer construction schedule • Sidewalks may be closed at times with alternate pathways for pedestrians • Some temporary lane closures • Install handicapped ramps, fence, wider sidewalks, landscaping, new overhead lane designations, new traffic signals and new streetlight poles, fixtures and foundations
- 7. GARNER STREET RECONSTRUCTION • South Garner Street from Hamilton to Easterly Parkway • Will improve drainage and pedestrian ramps • Allows for adequate pavement structure for present and future vehicle loads • Work to begin in early May; expect 2-3 months of construction
- 8. TREE REPLACEMENT & TREE GRATES • 10 trees planned for downtown • Trees planted by end of May • 12 new tree grates along College & Beaver Avenue • Tree grates completed by mid- August Tree grates are resized as trees grow and replaced when needed

BIKE RACKS • Staff continues to look for possible new bike rack locations • Demonstration covered rack ready for deployment • Will be set up in different areas of the Borough to demonstrate • Will be permanently installed in front of Schlow Memorial Library • Additional covered racks under consideration

HILLCREST & ATHERTON OVERHEAD LANE USE CONTROL SIGNS • Installation of 2 Overhead Mast Arms with Lane Use Control Signs • Implementation of Intersection Safety Study Recommendations In an early study conducted by Hoffman (1969), overhead lane use signage • Hillcrest/Atherton was identified as one of the top 5 contributed to a reduction in the total number of accidents by 44 percent in a 1-year period high-crash intersections

BICYCLE AMBASSADOR PROGRAM • Ambassador activities for the Spring Semester include: • Events to encourage safe cycling downtown • Light giveaways • Bicycle parking “positive” enforcement • Trained ambassadors 2013 Bicycle available to give Ambassador Training presentations and interact with the public

- 15. ORCHARD PARK PLAYGROUND PML CONFERENCE VOLUNTEER PROJECT • Build Day: June 25 • KaBOOM, a national non-profit, will help coordinate activities • DCNR grant funding for 50% of project • Will need ~175 Volunteers

STORMWATER & SANITARY SEWERS • No independent projects scheduled in the downtown this year • During street reconstruction and major roadway projects the Public Works Department performs preventative sanitary and stormwater sewer maintenance • Improves efficiency/reduces labor costs • Minimizes future disturbances on new roadway • Inflow and Infiltration (INI) Project • Upon execution of the contract, the first phase of the INI project will be to monitor for high flow areas

FRASER GARAGE LIGHTING PROJECT • Project led by a PSU student group • Review of utility bills • Designing a new lighting system with occupancy sensors, daylight harvesting, possibly solar and all new fixtures Fraser Street Parking Garage • Primarily for energy efficiency • Will go out for bid when plan is complete

CONVERSION OF METER LOTS TO KIOSK • Implement Pay by credit card option • Pay-by-plate • Pay by mobile device • Kiosks will replace the old fashioned parking meters in the following locations: • 2 kiosks on the 1st Floor of McAlister Parking Deck • 1 kiosk on the roof of McAlister • 1 kiosk in the Allen Lot New Kiosks to be installed in metered lots • 2 kiosks in the Beaver Ave Lot
- 21. PUGH STREET GARAGE SEALANT • Placing a sealant on the Pugh Street Garage drive aisles • Expect a full closure for a week • Planned for May/June after Pugh Street Garage student move out and before Arts Fest
