CARDAMOM MOSAIC,MARBLE
OR KATTE DISEASE
• Disease(viral)commonly seen in katte in
NORTH KANARA
• Most devastating disease in South India
• Mainly found in cardamom, cause an
extensive damage on crop yield loss
• CAUSATIVE ORGANISM:CARDAMOM
MOSAIC VIRUS
SYMPTOMS
• Seen at any stages of the growth
• First observed in young leaves of cardmon which
shows a general chlorosis of the entire blade with
slender, interrupted, parllel streaks of a pale green
tissues running along with veins from midrib to the
margin
• As a result of charecterstic symptoms, the disease
plants can be easily recognized even from the
distance owing to their pale appearance
• No symptoms are observed in flowers.pseudostems
become stunded and leaves are redused in size
• The rhizomes gradually shrivel and the entire clump
dies eventually
• They may be die before the time of bearing flowers
and fruits
TRANSMISSION
• Transmited through infected clones by several
causitive species such as aphis nerii macrosiphum
sonchi and aphis gossipiii which belonngs to class
aphids that are present in the field
MANAGEMENT
• CULTURAL CONTROL
• Cultural control is a part of sustainable agricultural
systems to achieve high crop yeild and is important
tool to minimize the disease loss in many crops
• They are:
• FIELD SANITATION AND DESTRUCTION OF WEED
HOST
• CROP ROTATION
• TILLAGE
• TRAP CROP
PREVENTION
• Chemical control
• Preventive or remedial operations which depends
upon their effectivness upon the chemical action or
chemical properties of their substance used
• Insecticides: as stomach poison borax, thallum,
phosphorus, Mercury,fixed nicotine's
• Contact poisons:oil emulsions,pyrethrums,benzene
hexa chloride and organic phosphates
• Fumigants:chemicals like hydrogen cyanide ,carbon
bisulfide,sulphar dioxide,para dichloro benzene
