RATIONALE
• Many of the students nowadays, preferably those in
the high school level are generally directionless in
terms of their career orientation (Schneider and
Stevenson, 2006). The alarming number of students
share a struggle in terms of their career path and the
department of education should do an intervention
about it.
RATIONALE
• The Angeles City Senior High School is currently offering
Accountancy, Business and Management (ABM) Academic Track
and it is a special track for students aspiring to become
businessman, accountant and some related courses. In the
informal interviews, some students find the track very hard and
some will pursue different track after their graduation in the
senior high school. It is alarming that these mentally arises on
their mind while dealing and immerse on this academic track.
STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM
• Moreover, the research aims to assess ABM students in their career
orientation to proposed an instructional enhancement plan for
strengthening the ABM students’ conviction on pursuing a business
or accountancy related courses. To give a realization of this mission,
the following specific problem will be established.
• 1. How may the senior high school students be described in their
career orientation?
• 2. How may the problems encountered by the SHS students based on
the analysis of the career orientation be addressed ?
• 3. What instructional enhancement plan may be proposed in order to
strengthen the career path of the ABM students?
TYPE OF RESEARCH AND RESPONDENTS
The study employs descriptive research which dealt with
describing the respondents in their career orientation. The
Respondents are the ABM students of Angeles City Senior
High School Grade 11 in the Division of Angeles City school
year 2017-2018.
INSTRUMENT
• Their were two instruments utilized in this study. a survey
questionnaire for describing career orientation of the ABM
students. The first tool is a 5-point scale on describing the
respondents decision making in their career path (Pittaoulis,
2012).
• The second instrument is a checklist consists of the career
orientation of the student. It comprised on checking the
statements applying to their own priority dealing with career
orientation and the second column is the most important and a
5-scale Linkert scale on the students’ perception regarding
their career orientation. There are 10 statements on their
career perception and it was adopted from the study of Granitz,
Chen & Kholi (2014).
RESULT
GRADE 11 SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS
DESCRIPTION IN THEIR CAREER ORIENTATION
• Friends and Peers (X=3.50) and Parents and Family (X=3.42)
are the most source of information regarding career path it has
a verbal interpretation of near to extensively. Teachers
(X=3.04) and internet-based information (X=2.63) interpret on
neutral and school counselors (X=2.23) and printed materials
(X=2.03) has an interpretation of somehow.
RESULTS
• The most checked perceptions are on the mindset that their
current course can take them to a high paying salary (77.88%),
It can teach them for job skills (75%), It is very interested
course/subject (74.04%), help them to get a good job (72.12%)
and it can help them for a further studies career path (67.31%).
• The least checked perceptions are on advised by their high
school teachers and guidance counselor on choosing the
subject (46.15%), parents suggested to major the
course/subject (52.88%), friends suggested to major this
subject (56.73%), earning good grades (58.65%) and passionate
about the subject/course (60.58%).
RESULT
• The Grade 11 students of Angeles City Senior High School in
the ABM track
strongly agree that their course provide them the skills that they
will use in their job (X=4.38) and the same interpretation that
they should pick major that are related in their career goals
(X=4.34) and helping them focus on what they want to do in the
future (X=4.23). The respondents strongly disagree that they can
able to get a college education without taking the major related
to their course. The respondents have a disagree result on
getting a job, getting a major is unimportant (X= 2.49).
THE PROBLEMS ENCOUNTERED BASED ON THE
PERCEIVED ANALYSIS OF STUDENTS ON THEIR
CAREER AS ABM WERE THE FOLLOWING
• The first problem is on sources of information regarding their career
mostly tend on their personal level, friends and peers as well as their
close relatives are the mina sources of income. The reliable persons
and information are left behind.
• The second problem is the teachers and guidance counselors based
on the result are missing in action. The teachers and specially the
guidance counselors should be the focal persons for the career path
of the students.
• The third problem is on decrease of interest in the course is one of
the problem. It marks low in the most important perceptions. The
interest is slowing down that’s why they shift to other course after

• An Instructional Enhancement Plan is proposed on strengthening the
ABM Academic Offering thru integrating strategies on different
learning competencies for Grade 12 Accountancy, Business and
Management. The result of the career orientation surveys and
checklist are the base line to properly orient the Grade 12 students
for school year 2018 – 2019 in their chosen track.
• The subjects for Grade 12 are Fundamentals of Accounting, Business
and Management II, Applied Economics, Entrepreneurship, Business
Ethics and Social Responsibility, Business Finance and Business
Enterprise and Simulation.
• It is a one-year program toward the realization of 90-100% career
path on ABM track in their college degree.
DISCUSSION
• The results of the career orientations of Grade 11 Students are the
same with the study of Granitz and Kohli (2014) on their survey of
High School students. The career of the students relies on their peers
and friends and not to the reliable persons such as guidance
counselors and teachers. The phenomenon of the decision-making is
because of the fact that the respondents are in their teenage years and
they tend to decide based on the majority of friends.
• The Dissertation of Pittaoulis (2012) regarding on the thinking of
selecting college majors, plan for the future has the same findings.
The priority of students on the fact that the chosen track can lead
them to job satisfaction and skills for much high paying job. The
results have a strongly agreed interpretation on the skills and
satisfaction of their future career.
CONCLUSION
1. The career orientation of the students was mostly relying on their
friends and peers, emphasis was given on the orientation that the
chosen career pays high salary and it helps the students in their life-
long skills.
2. The problems encountered were the following: low participation of
teachers and guidance counselors on information drive regarding the
career choice and decreasing interest on their future in the ABM track
as a course in college.
3. The strengthening of academic track was integrated on Curriculum
Enhancement
• Plan for Grade 12 for school year 2018-2019 and it emphasized on
the focal points to considerate in every competency in six ABM
RECOMMENDATION
1. The career orientation plan should integrate in the annual school
improvement plan
to help the students and the community on aligning the academic track
to their college degrees.
2. The problems on career orientation must include on the continuous
improvement
plan (CIP) for grade 12 to help the concerns teachers and administrators
in taking care of the ABM students.
3. The following enhancements will be the following consideration: (1)
Venture on Increase the importance of Printed and electronic materials (2)
Strengthen the Teachers and Guidance Counselor Relationship (3)
Strengthen the camaraderie of ABM Students (4) Orient the students on
Business Values integrated across specialized ABM subjects (5) Venture
on Media Literacy on the inspiration on the chosen SHS Academic Track
(6) Apply Reward System for contests and best students in ABM.
