- 3. Concept Qadushah isthe Hebrew word for raising or blessing, whose five characters in an abstracted way articulate “ " קדושהthe profile of the building. The pronouncing of a blessing a professional object is raised or exalted. It is lifted out of the everyday and made into something special. The glazed ceramic facade points to a different layer of writing and scripture. “ " קדושה The tortuous, zigzagging plan results, Star of David. Block structure prevalent in the neighborhood. Arranging the building’s volume and its facades continuously along two main streets, by turning inward and orienting the synagogue towards the east two squares or courtyards are created. Synagogue reflects the history of Jews in Germany through its architectural spaces: Ground Plan, Voids, Passageways, Garden.

This inner court gives the community space for their celebrations, for outside events or parties, and a space for kids to play. Case Studies International CaseStudy Firstenburg Community Center, Vancouver, Washington • A multi-use facility that combines recreational and community spaces with other public services. • The recreation program includes swim and warm water leisure/therapy pools, a two-court gymnasium, fitness space, aerobics dance studios and multi-purpose activity spaces. • The community spaces incorporate child watch, a teen lounge and game room, a senior lounge and resource room, and meeting rooms. • Multi-use community rooms seat up to 350 people. Firstenburg Community Center, Vancouver, Washington • Families visit the site together, using library and community center resources to enjoy a wide range of recreation and learning activities. • The Firstenburg Community Center is a two level building. • The footprint and position of the building are a result of careful analysis of the areas of healthy and significant trees, solar orientation, prevailing wind direction, noise from the adjacent street, and program requirements.

Firstenburg CommunityCenter, Vancouver, Washington • Materials have been selected for their durability, beauty, and sustainability. • A strong emphasis is placed on natural, non-toxic enduring materials. • Douglas fir trees, were harvested from the site and milled locally for 12,000 board feet of material used as wall panelling, screens, benches and bleacher seats. • Other wood, such as the exterior wood rain screen system that provides durable protection for the building’s waterproofing, was constructed. • Recycled materials such as the glass wall tiles used in the locker rooms. • Material waste was also considered during construction.

Firstenburg Community Center,Vancouver, Washington • In 2010, construction was completed on the Opsis Architecture and Johnston Architects designed Cascade Park Community Library adjacent to the Firstenburg Community Center. • The co-location of the facilities provides numerous efficiencies for systems, from public transportation and parking to utilities. • The building focuses views into stands of large existing trees and captures filtered daylight. • The dramatic, sloped wood ceiling reading room, stacks, and checkout are open visually to the surrounding children’s area, teen area, and meeting rooms.

LIVE/LOCAL CASE STUDY ARBAMINCHYOUTH CENTER Location: arbaminch shaecha LOCATION OF THE STUDY AREA Arbaminch town is capital of Gamo-Gofa zone which has a total area of 12581.4 square kilometer and consists 15 woredas and two city administrations namely, 1.Arbaminch zuria, 2.Kucha,3. Kemba,4. Boreda, 5.Chencha 6.Daramlo,7. Dita,8. Zala, 9.Melakoza,10. Bonke, 11.Ubadebretsehay,12 Mirab- 13 Abaya, and 14.Demba- Gofa and the two town administrations are Arba Minch and 15 sawla . The total population of the zone is estimated about 1,597,767 (CSA, 2007) with a population density of 127 inhabitants per kilometer square it is one of the densely populated areas in the region. The elevation of the zone ranges from 600 to 3300 meters above sea level.

Location of thesite The site is located on sech wereda generally the youth center is in the remote area according to the other weredas the youths on the other wereda cannot access the center easily Population of youths on the weredas According to the youth population in arbaminch the youth center is located in the less youth population density wereda so that the center is not constructed in the consideration of giving youth facilities to the majority of youth population in arbaminch. Transportation The transportation around the site area is less, there is no transportation rout around the site so that the youths travels by foot up to 1km to the center from the taxi drop.

- 27. Indoor sports (pool& table tennis) The indoor sports are not on the indoor spaces which is not good for the furniture and sport equipment. Cafeteria The location of the cafeteria on the site is isolated from the other facilities but which is good for the library to avoid disturbance but it is not also near to other facilities and the outdoor cafeteria part is not well organized as outdoor recreational space.

Library Although the libraryis located on a good position of the site plan there are three for buffering the sound comes from the outdoor sport fields but the library is in the same building that the multipurpose hall is found. It shares a partition wall which is made up of HVB wall. Counseling office The location of the counseling office in the left side of the library, which is good for the privacy of the users and it is zoned with the library. Which is comfortable for the counseling purpose. Child care center The child care center is located in the right side of the library, in front of the entrance of the multipurpose hall. The location is good for the childes for the access of the sport fields but there is no specified playground for the users of the child care center.

Sport fields Basketball court •The basketball court found in the right side of the entrance and it is good for access of the users but it is located near to the library. • The court is oriented to the east, it is difficult to play on the court unless on the midday because the sun will disturb the vision of eyes during a game. • The other problem is the existing condition of the field is covered with grass and bushes and the ring boars are damaged that cannot give a service to the users • The court is not constructed with a proper construction and material. Football field • The football field is located in the right side of the basketball field which is good in the case of noise disturbance for the of the library. • The major problem is, the field is oriented to the east which is difficult to play in the day light. • The field is not facilitated with proper grass, the existing condition is the field is not covered with glass instead it covered with dirt.
- 30. CASE STUDY CONCLUSION Inorder to achieve the goal of creating a space which can be fully utilized, it is important to do so with full participation from the community. This is essential when using a responsive case study analysis. The case study used as an input for this thesis and the inputs are used for developing the program of the spaces and other methodological use.
