Rising food prices are a growing problem around the world. Prices for staples like wheat, corn, and rice have doubled or reached 10-year highs in some countries. Natural disasters have hurt production in key countries like Myanmar and Australia, where a decade of drought has reduced harvests by 98%. The rising global population, economic growth in emerging markets that increases consumption, climate change effects like droughts, and natural disasters are all contributing factors causing higher food prices. To address this issue, population growth must be controlled and climate change impacted reduced through lower carbon emissions.
