Semantic Web.
Web Services
• Web services is a software system
identified by a URI, whose public
interfaces and bindings are defined and
  described using XML.

Web Service Technologies

     • SOAP for accessing Web Services
     • WSDL for describing Web Services
     • UDDI for publishing and looking up Web Services

Semantic Web.
Combination
Semantic Web + Web Services
               = Semantic Web Services

• Use Semantic Web technologies to describe Web
  Services

OWL-S Service

                                                   presents ServiceProfile

Resource offers Service described by ServiceModel

                                                   supports ServiceGrounding

Semantic Web.
Semantic Web Services (SWS)
• The SWS architecture
     – a set of components that support the usage
       activities.
     – Between a requester and a provider,
components such as a register, a reasoner, a
matchmaker, a decomposer and an invoker.
     – The components have different names and
       scopes across individual approaches.

Semantic Web.
SWS Infrastructure
     – Usage activities
           • define functional requirements;
     – the architecture
           • defines the components needed for accomplishing
             these activities; and
     – the service ontology
           • aggregates all concept models related to the
             description of SWS and
           • constitutes the knowledge-level model of the
information describing and supporting the usage of
             the services.

Semantic Web.
Proof & Trust
• Proof:
     – Digital signatures plays an important role in proof.
     – Security technologies like encryption and access control can be
used to ensure confidentiality of information.

• Trust:
     – Everyone should be able to define a trust model for himself,
     – A mechanism is necessary to derive the degree of trust for each
       new source.

                – WEB OF TRUST!
