Addictions included dependence on alcohol, benzodiazepines, opioids, cannabis, methamphetamines, amphetamines, and polysubstance dependence. Disorders included GAD, MDD, PTSD, ADHD, and various PD’s. Participants were tested for somatic (body) insight, spirituality, and workplace conflict style. Integrating is the most efficacious conflict style followed by compromising. Avoiding is the least efficacious conflict style and dominating is next to last. Findings showed that as somatic insight and spirituality increased so did use of integrating and compromising style. The research findings showed clear implications for incorporating aikido in training programs for professions including management, peace officers, health workers, and educators. Petaluma, CA: IIHS This article is an autobiographical description of providing counseling and spiritual guidance at the Burning Man Festival to festival-goers, a.k.a. burners, who were experiencing a variety of difficulties. At the end of summer for one week per year the Black Rock desert of Nevada Burning Man becomes home to fifty thousand people. Burning Man was founded on the idea of transformation, as well as creative expression, personal responsibility, and interdependence. In offering to be of service to distressed burners I realized that Burning Man is perhaps the most efficacious context in existence for catalyzing a holistic growth and healing experience via spiritual counseling. To illustrate this I share my experience of giving healing services to a fellow burner while shaded under an open-air tent in the blazing heat. I explain the issues he expressed, the seemingly disparate techniques I intuitively improvised, and the benefits we both experienced as a result of our shared experience. Career-wise, as a licensed psychologist I aspire to serve clients: 1) experiencing challenges with being over-stressed, relationship conflict, dysfunctional communication, and emotional dysregulation, low self- esteem, and difficulty in boundary setting; 2) with substance abuse/dependence disorders occurring independently or co-occurring with trauma; 3) who would benefit from learning conflict resolution skills through a combination of psycho-education and psycho-drama techniques. I have experience in providing individual and group psychotherapeutic services to clients with trauma, severe mental disorders and co-occurring substance abuse/dependence disorders, troubled male adolescents, and children.
