This paper discusses the necessity of frequency-controlled reserves for securing power systems in interconnected and microgrid contexts, focusing on the implementation through a virtual power plant (VPP) structure. It highlights the incorporation of frequency containment reserves (FCR) and under frequency load shedding (UFLS) requirements, along with the capability to control distributed energy resources (DER) and respond to frequency excursions. Additionally, it presents a patented ICT-based application for managing these controlled reserves effectively.
